3Dconnexion Supports Engineers of the Future at WorldSkills London 2011

All CAD Workstations at Upcoming WorldSkills Vocational Training Competition Equipped with a Top-of-the-Line 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D Mouse

BOSTON – July 19, 2011 – As part of its commitment to supporting the development of a skilled global workforce, 3Dconnexion will again sponsor the Mechanical Engineering Design CAD category at the 41st International WorldSkills competition, equipping all 20 CAD workstations with a 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D mouse. More than 150,000 people are expected to watch 1,000 competitors – people from around the world age 25 and under – compete to be the best at their chosen skill. WorldSkills London 2011 will take place Oct. 5-8, 2011 at ExCeL, London.

“Many of the students taking to the global stage in the engineering competition at WorldSkills London 2011 will be familiar with 3Dconnexion 3D mice but may not have had an opportunity to try one,” said Antonio Pascucci, vice president of products, 3Dconnexion. “To prepare students for their professional careers, it’s critical they have experience with the same design tools they’ll be expected to use in their professional careers. Giving competitors a chance to push the boundaries of their design capabilities with a SpacePilot PRO will deliver lasting value in the fields of engineering and computer-aided design. We are proud to once again be sponsoring the WorldSkills competition.”

Held every two years, WorldSkills is the largest international skills competition in the world and London looks set to be the largest WorldSkills event yet. An estimated 150,000 visitors will watch 1,000 competitors from over 50 nations competing in 45 vocational skill categories over four days. Teams compete to win gold, silver and bronze medals, while medallions for excellence are awarded to competitors who achieve the international standard. Participating countries hold extensive regional heats before selecting their national teams, so the competition truly represents the best of nations.

“WorldSkills London promises to be a truly world class event,” said Aidan Jones, chief executive, WorldSkills London 2011. “Since winning the bid in 2006, we have been working hard to ensure it is the best WorldSkills event yet, showcasing the skills that shape our world. This would not be possible without the support of our sponsors who are leading the promotion of skills excellence, and helping to train  young people for the future.”
