C4D, MacOS 13.3, SpaceMouse Enterprise

Post by bollella@icloud.com »

Hi, I have the latest versions of the 3DConnexion software, MacOS, C4D 2023, Substance3DPainter, and ZBrush.
SPE works wonderfully out-of-the-box on Substance3DPainter and ZBrush.

C4D has issues.
First, the axes are all inverted and I have to change them all, Up to Down, Left-to Right, etc.

Second, at random times the sense of the axes reverts back to inverted and I have to open settings and select C4d even though C4D is showing on the SPE display.

Third, the navigation is very dicey. Just cannot get the speed/threshold in Settings to help at all. The navigation doesn't seem to recognize the selected object and instead pivots around some unknown point that causes difficulties.

Fourth, the SPE seems insensitive to the setting in the C4D 3D Mouse Dialog.

Settings reports : 3DxMacCore 1.3.0.371 (371), 3DxWare 10.8.0 (3554), Firmware 4.42
Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling the latest driver. And I have installed the Plug-Ins from the Settings/Tools menu

Thanks,
Greg

I have similar issues since 10.8 driver on my M1 Mini.

If my Mac went to sleep and I come back, the driver seems to awake without
knowledge of its per App settings.

I onlyt used it in Vectorworks and Blender so far, but both will ignore overall
or specific speed settings after a (one or more ?) Mac sleep cycles.
If you just touch the 3D knob, your model view will immedeately rotate 3 times
and went to nirvana.

I did not yet find a workaround by simply opening driver settings or so.
Maybe it would need to restart each app or better the whole machine.
I have already a thread somewhere here on the forum, but no feedback.

Also after upgrading to 10.8, it looks like it also corrupted most parts of my
by App Settings and Button Assignments.

I do not understand why, after decades of success, no matter which OS,
not much user maintenance needed, but since about 5 years, Input Drivers
are suddenly such an issue.

What is the exact version of Cinema 4D you have installed?

Nuno,
I have Cinema 4D 2023.2.0 installed.

Do I have all the latest software/firmware for my SPE?
Settings reports : 3DxMacCore 1.3.0.371 (371), 3DxWare 10.8.0 (3554), Firmware 4.42

Thanks,
Greg

Nuno,

Could it be the new plugin for C4D didn't install correctly?

We suspect the issue with the inverted axes is in your driver configuration. One of my colleagues will be follow up here.

Please make sure you keep a copy of all files.

Also, could you please clarify what you mean by:

What exactly is the "C4D 3D Mouse Dialog" in version 2023.2 of the application?

Thanks Nuno,

The image below is the C4D dialog for the SPE. The c4d docs specifically discuss the SPE from 3DConnexion. No changed to this dialog change the behavior of the SPE. Even unchecking 'Enable' does nothing.

Not sure the image came though. How can I upload a picture to this forum?

How do you access this dialog?

You used a "[img]" tag. I do not know if the Forum tool (phpBB) accepts URLs without a file name. Using a "[url]" tag should work regardless.

It's a C4D input dialog.
Here is the url link to the docs page. Changing the settings simply seems to have no effect on the SPE at all.

https://help.maxon.net/c4d/en-us/#html/ ... 3d%20mouse

Also, I noticed that after I installed the 10.8.0 driver when I attempt an upgrade of MacOS the OS doesn't start correctly and I get thrown into recovery mode. Had to call Apple support to figure out what happened. We ran the MacOS First Aid command from the Disk Utility menu on the volumes and that fixed it. Same happened on a 'dot dot' release that came out just after the 'dot release. Same fix.

I understand what it is but I do not know how you are accessing it.

In other words, how do you open the dialogue?

Window->Customazation->Command Manager Search for 'Commander'

https://gyazo.com/2f6c0fe8d7ae07033f8363917bedbe84

Select 'Comander...' (Not the Legact commander) Search for '3D Mouse'

https://gyazo.com/2aa403f917e0b6b4672ec925cd8bcfe5

Double-click on '3D Mouse'

Thank you.

We were wondering how that dialogue was still accessible. The dialogue was used to control the settings of the legacy solution (replaced by the plug-in in v. 2023.2). I expect Maxon to complete the removal in a later version.
