Update Maya Plugin?

Post by PixL »

Hi:
I'm using SpacePilot w/Maya. I updated to the 3.6.11 drivers, but in Maya the version # displayed in the Control Panel is version 3.5.1.
Do I need to update the plugin manually?
Thanks.

Hi,

The Plug-in should be updated automatically if you update 3DxSoftware. Maybe Maya was running while you installed 3DxSoftware_v3.6.11?
If it doesn't help to reboot and then reinstall the software you might want to try a complete reinstall es mentioned in this article.

I closed Maya before updating the driver. I didn't uninstall the driver first - perhaps that could fix the problem? In any case, maybe you could provide 3DxMaya.mll separately so we could just copy it into the Maya Plugins Folder?
I'll try your recommendations.
Thanks.

Theres instruction in the Maya plugin help file.
* Manual Installation
Copy the Melscripts to the "scripts\startup" sub-directory of Maya,
and the bitmap files to the Maya "icons" directory.
Copy 3DxMaya.mll to "bin\plug-ins"
Copy the 3DxHelp directory to "docs\ext"

All the files are in:
C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxMaya2009

When you installed the driver all the plugins get installed.

Now its not working at all

Post by PixL »

Thanks for the reply.
I followed the uninstall instructions, including removing the registry entries.
Then I rebooted, reinstalled the drivers, and then rebooted again.
Is there an app so I can test to see if it's working?

In Maya, it's not working at all.
At startup, I get this:
// MayaWindow|mayaMainWindowForm|formLayout2|formLayout14|formLayout15|formLayout49|ShelfLayout|Anim||popupMenu8|menuItem155 //
// Warning: Move Camera //
// Warning: Rotate around focal point! //

Demo-applications are available under
Start->Programs->3Dconnexion->3Dconnexion 3DxWare->demos

Try what Fred suggested (manual installation) and use the files in:
C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxMaya2008\

All the files appear to be correct.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\bin\plug-ins\3DxMaya.mll - 10/22/08
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\scripts\startup\C3DxButtonEditor.mel - 5/8/08
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\scripts\startup\C3DxControlPanel.mel - 5/7/08
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\scripts\startup\C3DxMapping.mel - 5/9/08
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\scripts\startup\MagellanStartup.mel - 10/22/08

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\icons has the 5 3Dx files.

I have also disabled my custom userSetup.mel, which has caused a conflict w/SpacePilot in the past (the conflict was resolved by including "MagellanStartup;" at the end of script).

Any more ideas?

The SP works w/all the demos.
When I launch Maya, I still get the error message posted above.

Hi,

Please rename C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2008\bin\plug-ins\3DxMaya.mll to 3DxMaya.dll. Then right-click 3DxMaya.dll , open the "Version"-tab. What do you see as "Product Name"?

You are using Windows XP 32bit?

I'm using WinXP 64 bit.
The SP was working fine until I upgraded.
The reason I upgraded was that I was getting an occasional error message when I used the SP and nothing was selected. It didn't affect the performance of the SP, but I figured it was a bug so I upgraded to the latest drivers.

I'd still like to get this to work. Do you have anymore suggestions?
I guess I could reinstall the version that was working and see if that works again.

You need to use the 64bit Plug-in which you can find here:
C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3DxStudio200864\

Does it work then?
