solidworks 2009 addin drivers for FX4000 spaceball

Trying to get my serial spaceball FX4000 to work
with solidworks 2009. Can anyone help with which if any drivers
will let do this .

Hi,

The latest available software package for your device was released long before SolidWorks 2009 came out (see also here).
Because SolidWorks changed the API the add-in we delivered for the SpaceBall 4000 and SolidWorks 2007 does not work with SolidWorks 2008/2009. So unfortunately your device is not supported for SolidWorks 2009.

Your serial Spaceball CAN work in 2008 & 2009 using current addins & older drivers. You have to use two different Spaceball versions. You have to install JUST the 3DConnexion drivers from version 2.8.2. Do a custom install and just install the 3dConnexion software and NONE of the cad program addins. Then download the latest driver for the USB Spaceball and do a custom install and select ONLY the Solidworks control addin. This is not supported by 3DConnexion because they want you to upgrade to their new devices and new computers dont come with serial ports or so they said when asked last year. This is the only way to get your serial Spaceball to work with 2008 or 2009.

Thanks, jalcad! After our upgrade to SW2009, it seemed that the serial port spaceball devices might have turned into paperweights. Your solution worked like a charm!
