Backing up the button mapping config (.scg) file?

Post by Bryan »

Dear velvetk213,

Exactly where did you copy them from?
Where did you copy them to?
Did you change operating systems?
Did you change versions of application software?
Are you checking your button mappings in the same mode they were created in?
Did you change your version of 3DxSoftware?
When you say "it didn't recognize the buttons mappings.", what were experiencing? Did you get an error message?

Sincerely,
Bryan

Hi Bryan!
I copied the .scg file from C:\Users\.......\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\profiles
and i put it in the same dir , after the new installation of same O.S. and all the programs including the 3d connexion software.
(to access to the dir position you must change the folder option to show hidden folders)
And when i started pro-e , i saw that all the buttons assigns was loose. It was returned to the default state. All my macros button assign was blank.
I got to spend time to re-assign my buttons choice. Whitout any error messages.
Is there a way to backup this file? if i connect my spacepilot to another pc (same O.s) can i copy this file ,to start working immediately?
I only change to the new update of 3dxware after re-making all the button assigns.
Tanks
Regards
Bye

Backing up the button mapping config (.scg) file?

Dear velvetk213,

You can back up them up like any other file. They're simply text files. If you make copies of them and place in another's user's profile or in your profile on a different machine, they should be available to you.

If you have 3DxProE installed, the settings are not saved in .scg files.

How to backup the button mapping config (.scg) file?

Post by Bryan »

Dear velvetk213,

In general,

Each user's configuration's .scg files are saved

under their name,

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application

Data\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\profiles

While the drivers and plugs-ins originate from

C:/Program Files/3Dconnexion/...

So when new drivers are installed, each user's

configurations files should remained nicely nestled under

each individual's user's profile.

If a user were to move to a different machine, he

could copy these .scg files over.

But normally updating drives should not make any

changes to settings and button mappings that a user may

have individualized.

However some applications do also make use of the

registery.

Our Plug-ins also use the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion

For example, if SolidWorks gets started, our Plug-in looks

for “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion

Add-In for SolidWorks” – if this key is not present it

will be created while starting SolidWorks. If you do not

have SolidWorks installed there is no such key.

In order to transfer settings from one computer to the

other the corresponding registry-entries have to be

exported and imported.

(In SolidWorks under the 3Dcontrol Menu there are Export

and Import Items for this.)

For ProE we use the following Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\3Dconnexion\3DxProE

In ProE we store all button mappings under this key that

are different to the default mapping. This key is also

only present if ProE was started. To transfer the

mappings you can export this key and import it to the new

machine

Sincerely,
Bryan
