Maya objects disapearing when construction history is on.

Post by tmcthree »

The latest driver 3DxWare64_v10-6-4_r3119 is causing a serious bug for me in Maya.

If I save an object with construction history, when it's reloaded, the construction fails and the object seems to disappear. (It's still in the scene, but it doesn't have any verticies)

I uninstalled the 3d connextion driver and the problen went away.

Anybody else seeing this or know of a solution where I can use my 3d mouse and maya simulataniously?

I thought i was losing my mind earlier today. Spent the entire day troubleshooting to find that it was the mouse that was giving me problems. I'm still trying to figure out a solution though. If i find something i'll post it here.

I dont think it's the history. I did a test earlier where i just created 4 cubes, saved the scene and reloaded. When I did only one of them was there. There were nodes in the outliner for the geometry, but nothing displayed. If i tried to export one of the invisible cubes as an fbx it would crash maya.

I rolled back to version 10.6.0. Works ok now.

Same here. Any geometry with history fails to display in MAYA. tested in MAYA 2019, 2020.
If you select the geo and tweak any value on the history node, the geo is then created and displayed in viewport.
Also many files take forever to open in MAYA with 3dconnexion Driver installed. it Is a big mess to completely break an application like this.
I felt there were also issues with constrains failing to evaluate at random times but I didn't test it enough to be sure is an issue related to 3dconnexion driver.
What is true is that without the driver and plugin isntalled MAYA works as expected.

Is happens for the last two versions of the drivers at least.

Hi Sirpiltrafus,

Thanks for the updates in regards to this issue. Can you please send me the steps in order for me to reproduce the issue on my end?
We would love to test it and see if its something related to our plugin or something else.
If you could also include some screenshots or a video showing the process then that would be helpful.

Will be waiting for some updates on your end.

Regards,
Abdul. A

If its of any consolation I can reproduce this issue.
As a matter of interest what is the Viewport 2.0 rendering engine set to?

The problem happens for sure on DX11. I believe on openGL too.
The fact that maya files take a long time to open with the 3dconnexion plugin installed makes me think is not a display issue. also if you refresh a value on a history node of the missing object it will appear in the viewport. It looks more like the plugin is corrupting the files somehow.

I've already sent this issue to support. Vlad (via Aleksandra) has it plus a demo scene ... here's a copy of my email to them.
TLDR. The issue is related to the construction history. Disable and then reenable one of the construction nodes to get your geometry back.

Hi Aleksandra
Please find attached the scene that demonstrates the problem.

I have rolled back the driver to 10.6.0 and that seems to solve the issue.
So the problem seems to be only present in the latest driver 10.6.4.

To see the issue do as follows...

- Open the scene and locate "MISSING_OBJECT" in the outliner.
- If the bug is present for you, that object should seem to have no
vertices.
- Set one of that objects construction nodes (eg "polysplit17") to "has
no effect".
- The object should reappear.

I'm using a spaceexplorer usb (although it should be noted that the device
need not ever be attached to the machine for the bug to manifest. So it
seems clear to me that this is a driver and not a hardware issue)
