3DxProfileServer.exe Ultrahigh CPU and ram usage after update (3DWare 10.5.14 3DxWinCore 17.5.14.16045)

Post by Niritio »

Hi. I recently updated the controllers for my Wireless Spacemouse.

I noticed that after a couple of hours suddenly the 3DxProfileServer.exe process consumes from 50% up to 95% of the CPU while in idle and more than 1.5 GB of ram.
This appear to happen in idle or in use, doesn't matter.

This didn't happen before the last update (that the software prompted me to do). For now, I saw that restarting windows got the process to return to it's normal state (between 0 and 0.9% CPU usage and about 6MB of ram) but the high CPU and ram usage returns after some hours.

Is there any known fix to this?

Experiencing the same here. Very interested in any ideas. The only current fix is uninstalling.

Hi all,

What was happening when the CPU was between that range? Were multiple applications running or a heavy application was running?
Can you please let me know what was happening before the CPU increased that high?

Thank you,

Experiencing the same here, just installed the driver package for my spacemouse compact yesterday. All was well with the world while I was using it in some cad work yesterday afternoon. This morning my CPU is pegged out and 60-90% of it is going to 3DxProffileServer.exe

I'm sorry for the delay. Have been very busy days.

About the issue. It is still happening.
It doesn't seem to matter either if there is a heavy application or just chrome open, the issue happens in both.

It has been an update between these days and my first post. There was an improvement. I noticed something that appears like a safety trigger. The first time in a session when the CPU usage spikes, the process slowly goes down by its own (e.g. from 65% to 1% in 1 minute); but the second time when the issue appears it doesn't trigger that and the CPU usage keeps ultrahigh until I manually kill the process.

More importantly, after the last update, I feel like the issue appears only after I let my PC unattended. The issue seems to appear either when the monitors dim or when I go back to work (I would think that it happens when the monitors dim, because I hear the fans working a lot when the monitors are off but haven't been able to hear them ramping up at some specific time so I can't tell for sure)

I think is important to mention that I don't have the suspend/sleep mode enabled on my PC, also I have it set up with a "Dell" power profile.
My understanding is that in this "Dell power profile" even if I don't have sleep mode enable some things do go off at the same time that my monitors (hardrive for instance). I also need to mention that I have my system installed in a SSD and a secondary HDD for file storage (I did the switch of my system from an HDD to the SSD like a month before the update when the problem started).

This improvement I mentioned is helping me now to work better because the process doesn't seem to suddenly go up anymore (at least in my experience). But now my concern is that it could be overworking my CPU when I let it unattended (just downloading some files or so).
I hope it would have a solution soon!

Hi all,

we haven't had such reports for the 3DxProfile server so far.

Would you please verify if removing the existing settings as described in this FAQ would solve the problem?

Please let me know what you find out. Thanks.

I registered just to say I am seeing the same issue. It just continuously spikes up for 20 sec ish then goes back down. It does seem to have something to do with loading images in chrome though. I have been noticing sometimes loading web pages it will have a 10-15sec pause before loading pictures and that's when the driver spikes. I thought it was a chrome or some other issue. Once I force killed the driver that behavior of slowing down webpages stopped. This also includes opening html email in gmail.

There is some issue with the driver. Also if it makes a difference my actual spacemouse is turned off when this is happening.

I also registered just to say I am seeing the same issue.

I tried the methods mentioned above but it keeps happening.

Right now I'm dealing with it like this:
- Step 1: When my PC goes into airplane-takeoff-mode I now open task manager and kill the process.
- Step 2: After a while it happens again and I go back to step 1.

after killing the process the mouse works just fine.

Experiencing the same issue as others. CPU usage spikes when waking up the PC. I have to "end task" the 3dxprofileserver in order to get my Alienware to do anything. Is there a fix? it's very frustrating that a mouse driver is breaking my very capable laptop.
