SpaceNavigator not working in Yosemite except in tutorials

Post by andymat »

Space Navigator, OS X Yosemite, Maya 2015, MudBox, Google Earth

Having loaded the latest driver from the 3DConnexion website 10.2.2, the demos work fine as expected. However it doesn't work on any of the programs above, the main one being Maya 2015.

Various errors are flagged up in Maya including... Cannot find procedure "_3DxOnDeviceChanged" and Cannot find procedure "_3DxOnMotionEvent".

This device works fine in the demos, as I said, and also works fine on Windows 7 64bit machine.

Any ideas?

FYI, I ran the uninstaller (in Applications/3dconnexion), reboot, reinstalled 10.2.2, reboot, and it still isn't working.

I have a fresh install of Yosemite and the latest SpaceNavigator drivers. Now it no longer works in Google Earth.

Any news on this issue?

Well I requested help on this from the 3DConnexion website on the 2nd June and had a standard reply on the 4th - which didn't help at all.

On Friday 5th June after sending more detailed in formation and a screen shot showing Maya complaining about missing lines of code, I had 2 emails saying...
Thank you for contacting 3DConnexion Technical Support Team.
The screen shot you provided us with has been sent to our product specialists for investigation. We will contact you as soon as any updates on your case are available.

With best regards,
3Dconnexion Technical Support
and...
Thank you for contacting 3Dconnexion!

Your request has been escalated so we can find a suitable answer for you. We will contact you with an update as soon as possible.

Best regards,

3Dconnexion
But have not heard anything since

Hi andymat,

I apologize that you have problems to get a valid support from our team. I will investigate and check what went wrong.

Concerning the issue with Google Earth and 3DxWareMac 10.2.2:
We apologize for the problems that you encounter with our newest driver and Google Earth on Mac. The issue is caused by Google who delivers with Google Earth libraries from 3Dconnexion that are outdated. We already contacted Google to correct this but haven’t yet received any response to this. Please make sure you open a report at Google for this issue to make them aware that their users need a fix for this problem.

You can still use one of the previous versions of our driver for Mac with Google Earth. You can find version 10.1.2 on the page with our legacy drivers.

In case you are using Sketchup 2015 you need a newer version than 10.1.2 and this workaround might help you:
  • A workaround for this problem would be to copy the files from the 3Dconnexion library to Google Earth’s library. We can provide instructions to do this, but note that you are doing this on your own responsibility.

    In a terminal:
If you want to copy the file in a terminal this would be the command to do it:

    • cp -r /Library/Frameworks/3DconnexionClient.framework /<PATH>/GoogleEarth.app/Contents/Frameworks/
Note: <PATH> may or may not be “/Applications”; it depends where Google Earth is located on your machine.

    With the Finder:
If you copy the file within the Finder make sure NOT to move the framework out of its location: /Library/Frameworks/.
Open the GoogleEarth bundle (“Show package contents”) in the finder.
Copy /Library/Frameworks/3DconnexionClient.framework to /<path>/GoogleEarth.app/Contents/Frameworks/ via drag + drop while holding the Alt-key when dropping.

I'm not sure if this is timely or not. It appears that others were also having problems with Google Earth and Google Earth Pro not working with 3DxWareMac_v10-2-2_r1925.
I deleted the entire driver and re-installed 3DxWareMac_v10-2-1_r1861 which seems to work fine on both GE and GEP.
Please ignore if this is old news.

Thanks
Randy

Hi!

I have the same problem with Google Earth not responding using driver 10.2.3.
Where can I find 3DxWareMac_v10-2-1_r1861?
The driver archive page http://www.3dconnexion.eu/service/archived-drivers.html only lists 10.2.2, 10.1.2 and 10.0.14.
Going back to 10.2.2 did not work for you guys, so that is no option for me, and 10.1.2 seems kind of old?

Was there a problem in other programs like Rhino3D or Google Sketchup with 10.1.2 perhaps?

10.1.2 works in Rhino and Google Earth for me, but still fails in Cura (3D Print), Celestia and Starry Night (Astronomy).

See our list of supported applications to verify if your software supports our 3D Mouse devices.

Same problem in Maya and Google Earth here.
That screenshot above showing that the second plugin won't load in Maya 2016 the same way here.
For Google Earth, it do nothing when i move the spacemouse pro.

On OSX El Captain with the latest drivers for 3d mouse.

Hi Climberfx,

the problem with Google Earth is explained above. You need to do the described workaround or install an older driver until Google has fixed the problem.

With Maya please verify if the plugin for Maya is installed and loaded: in Maya go to "Windows -> Settings/Preferences -> Plug-in Manager". In the window that opens verify if you have the entry "3DxMaya.Bundle" and if it is loaded. Make sure the tickbox for "Auto load" is active. Let me know what you find out.

Just bought a Space Navigator and installed latest drivers for osx (vers 10.10.4)

Utilities (trainer, puzzle) work fine, as does the spacenavigator with sketchup, but I just installed Google Earth and, what was to be expected reading this thread (but I didn't know beforehand...), the spacenavigator is not recognized with google earth.

I am not sure I will delete the latest driver to install a legacy one, but instead I tried the fix described a few posts above, copying the 3dconnexion framework to /Application/Goo... (I had to sudo to enable the copying)

No luck. Will a legacy driver work with sketchup 2016 ?

Hi phjo,

as far as I remember you need to use 3DxWareMac 10.1.2. You can download it from our archive.
