SpaceNavigator and Maya 2011

Post by SpacyRicochet » Wed May 05, 2010 11:56 pm

I just got my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard and installed Maya 2011 with an unlimited network license.

Afterwards I've installed the drivers for my SpaceNavigator, and the demo's seem to work fine. The driver also installed the control panel in Maya 2011 itself, so I can access that and the button editor. However, when in a scene, it still fails to listen to any input I give from the device.

I've already tried using

Code: Select all

MagellanStartup;
in the MEL console, however then it gives me the following error:

Code: Select all

//Error: Plug-in, "3DxMaya.bundle", was not found on MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH.
Any ideas?

Sorry, Maya 2011 addin hasnt been released.
Developers are still working on the Mac driver.
Periodically check the 3DXlabs for the Beta release when it becomes available.

No problem.

I had to downgrade to 2009 because the uni's render farms don't support any newer version and it works great now.

We have a beta version of 3DxWareMac on our 3DxLabs site: http://www.3dconnexion.com/supported-so ... xlabs.html. This version includes support for Maya 2011 and Photoshop CS5.

I had some problems with the installation but I have installed it manually and it works great.
Thank you 3DxLabs Team!

How Can I disable the Rolling function only for the Camera "Fly Mode"? I like the Object Movement very much. But that make sense only with the Rolling function.
On the other side, I like the Fly Mode without the Rolling function. So I have to click every time the "Disable Rolling" button. :-(

Hello BooME,

you can do all the mentioned settings in the 3Dconnexion panel in Maya.

:!: If you open the Button Mapping Editor you find as well in the category "3Dconnexion" many commands. This way you can map the toggle of e.g. "Disable Rolling" to one of the buttons. All other commands can be found there as well.

Hi jazioblaq,

please use the latest version of 3DxMacWare. It is version 1.6.1 and includes support for Maya 2011.

works good on google earth and rhino, not in maya 2011, not in autocad 2011.

I installed drivers v1.6.1, so, how can i fix this? any tips?

thanks.

AutoCAD 2011 for the Mac does not currently support a 3D mouse. We are contacting Autodesk to see if 3d mouse support can be enabled in a future version. If you have time, please also send them a note. It may help them prioritize this task properly.

With regards to Maya 2011, please check that the plug-in files are properly installed

- Confirm the plug-in 3DxMaya.bundle is in Users/Autodesk/maya/2011/plug-ins
- Confirm these files are in Users/Autodesk/maya/scripts
C3DxButtonEditor.mel
C3DxControlPanel.mel
C3DxMapping.mel
MagellanStartup.mel
usersetup.mel
- Can you look at the MEL script console after startup and paste the output here?
- Go to Maya Window->Settings/Preferences->Plug-In Manager and check that 3DxMaya.bundle is loaded

Finally, try typing the MEL command:
MagellanStartup;

Just a quick note, on my Mac the directory is actually:

Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/2011/plug-ins which has the 3DxMaya.bundle. file

and

Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/scripts where the .mel files are

and

Users/Shared/Autodesk/maya/scripts where the .mel files are
and that's the problem! 3dxwaremacSE actually installs the files into the wrong directory. What worked for me is while installing the drivers, manually moving the relevant (icons, scripts, .bundle) files from the temporary folder which is created by the installer in the shared folder (it only exists for the duration of the setup!).
After restarting, you copy the icon files into the shared/autodesk/maya/2011/icons, the .mel files into shared/autodesk/maya/2011/scripts and most important, the correct 3DxMaya.bundle (has to be 2011! copying the 2010 bundle won't work due to the different architecture) into shared/autodesk/maya/2011/plug-ins

Maybe 3Dconnexion could release another installer which fixes that??
