SPP Won't save same custom buttons on different programs.

Post by BBOwen »

Is there some issue with the Space Pilot Pro not wanting to save the "enter" and "delete" buttons?
It doesn't seem to like to remember the delete and enter keys from the keyboard.

Hi BBOwen!
  • :?: What programs are you using?
:?: In which way are you doing the button mapping - via the driver panel or a addin within the application?
:?: Which buttons are you programming? Are they the same or did you try different?

I have to map through the 3D Connexions control panel.
I used the actual delete and enter keys in my custom profile.
I tried different custom profiles, deleting custom buttons etc. etc.
I am sure it has to be something simple I am just not thinking it through clearly.
It did recognize MasterCAM from the beginning but most of the functions didn't match the buttons.
It didn't recognize Rapidform to start with so I had to create a complete custom profile.
I wonder if the actual delete and enter keys have some confusing influence on the profiles.

Hi,

are you trying different buttons with this mapping?
When you do have the default mapping do those buttons work?
Do other mappings work on those buttons?

Which device do you have? And what is your driver version?

Space Pilot Pro
3DxSoftwareSPP_v3-7-18

I went back over the MasterCAM profile and saw in the default buttons in the drop down window that there is a "delete key"
in the profile. I deleted my custom delete function and used the default "delete key". That solved the problem with the delete key and the only one that it doesn't remember now is the enter button.

In the drop down window many functions above the "Delete Key" there is as well a "Return Key". Did you try this one?

Ah the "Return Key" I never thought of that because I am a PC guy. It works so far. Thanks for the heads up. :D

SUCCESS! The MasterCAM maladies have been solved.
Duplicate buttons are a big no no..
You must go through the drop down button menu's thoroughly to make sure you don't have any duplicate buttons. This is the main reason why my profile wasn't being saved as I programed it.
If you open up your application the next day and are missing the custom buttons you set the day before go back through with a fine tooth comb and check the buttons in the drop down menus.
My profile was the same as it was yesterday, for the first time. I am loving my SPP now.

Hi BBOwen,
What exactly do you mean with "duplicate buttons"? Do you still have the config file which did not work?

The default MasterCAM profile that starts with the SSP already has some buttons that I was trying to make on my own.
I didn't equate the "Return Key" with "Enter" because I am a PC user. The return button is a MAC key.
If you make a custom button that has the same syntax as a default profile it will not save that button when you close the program and will revert back to the default when you reopen.
A few of the default keys are named different than in MasterCAM as well so that added to the confussion and frustration.
Now I am on to my Rapidform XOR2 profile, which the SSP software didn't recognize.

I am in the process of altering the user profile .scg file to customize it for Rapidform.
I am looking for what ever file might hold the key bindings right now. Searched the ini files but no luck yet.

OOPs TYPO, I meant .scg file.
Why can't we edit our posts?

Solved! :)

Post by BBOwen »

All is well now. SPP works flawlessly in all programs that I use. As a matter of fact I opened Adobe Acrobat the other day and without realizing what I was doing I automatically started using the SPP to maneuver around. Then when I was about to close Acrobat it hit me, "Wow I was using the SPP in there". It was so automatic and seamless.
I am a very satisfied and happy user of the Space Pilot Pro.
