same problem as before with a spaceball 4k serial

Post by ghostofrcon »

Hey guys i had a problem with the USB spaceball a couple days ago where i had installed the software, but the driver wouldn't start and the space ball wouldn't come on.

Well I got that one to work by holding the 1 and 2 buttons and disconnecting it and holding the 2 button while reconnecting.

I have the same problem with a spaceball 4k today and the afore mentioned method was to no avail. Any help you provide would be great:)

1,2 button fix will not work on a Serial device, try the below.

Specify com port.

1. Go to Start...Programs...3dxonnexion...3dxware...(right click) on "Start Driver" go to "properties".

2. Edit the "Target" line.

Old Line:
"C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxSrv.exe" -searchWarnDlg

New line:
"C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\3DxSrv.exe" -com 1

3. save configuration

4. Start driver.

P.S depending on your com ports you may have to change the -com 1 to a -com 2 etc.

didn't work
to identify the com port i opened up hyperterm and selected com2 (the device beeped upon clicking ok) then clicked buttons on the space ball. Characters appeared on the screen.

then i edited the shortcut and tried to start the driver and nothing happened. I have power cycled the machine to no avail

Hi ghostofrcon,
Dl"iver Version 6.6.4 : October 22, 2008
This driver support USB devices.

For a SB4K serial, you will need to download and install a different build. You can find the software for your 3D mouse in the Driver Downloads web page.
