Maya "Run As Administrator"

Post by Valen Wagner »

I'm using Maya 2008 SP1 and the SpaceExplorer in Vista 64bit. I've discovered that when I run Maya as an administrator, the SpaceExplorer doesn't work. The driver loads and I can access the 3D control panel and the custom button settings, but it doesn't actually work in the viewports.

Any ideas how to fix this? Does anyone else have the problem?

If you run Maya as administrator anything else that plugins or atempts to use the program should also be set to run as administrator on Vista.

I believe you need to select and Run 3dxsrv.exe as administrator.

Maya "Run As Administrator"

Thank you, that fixed it. But now the problem is when I'm running Maya as administrator, my special custom mouse buttons aren't working. I have my middle-click assigned to the large thumb button because the mousewheel button is way to hard to click on my particular mouse.

Anyway, I know this is now not a 3DConnexion issue, but do you know how I can run my mouse driver as administrator? I'm using the Microsoft Intellipoint driver. I guess I can searc the MS forums as well.

Try checking the Intellipoint folder in Program files
There should be a .exe that launches the intellimouse file.
Yes, Microsoft would be best place to get that info.

Valen,

You shouldn't be running apps as Admin on Vista. It's a necessity with some old programs that aren't Vista-ready, but you seem to be running up-to-date programs. Maybe you should look into the root of the problem.

The problem began when 3ds Max would not write to my custom UI files to save my color schemes. The only way I could get 3ds Max to save the changes to my UI was to run it as administrator. So I set Maya to run as administrator as well to eliminate any potential problems with it.

Are you saying that I shouldn't have to run things as administrator?

Should I take this up with Autodesk as a bug in 3ds Max 2010?
