Fedora 8 - 3dxsrv segfault

Post by ekastelijn »

Hi,

I am running Fedora 8 and I am having segfaults from 3dxsrv.
This is what I see in my system-log:

kernel: usb 3-2: usbfs: process 16658 (3dxsrv) did not claim interface 0 before use
kernel: 3dxsrv[16658]: segfault at 00000048 eip 0805bbcf esp bf983720 error 4
kernel: usb 3-2: usbfs: process 16760 (3dxsrv) did not claim interface 0 before use
kernel: 3dxsrv[16760]: segfault at 00000048 eip 0805bbcf esp bf8bc660 error 4

From this website http://www.fedorawiki.de/index.php/SpaceNavigator I understand that a beta version (v1-2-25) of the software exists that solves this problem.

My question:
* Can I receive this beta version?

I am eager to help testing the software on my i386 and x86_64 systems and I would like to post the results here.

regards,

I am also running Fedora 8 x86_64 and receiving segfaults from 3dxsrv.

Would you please send me the beta driver or post a link to download?

Thanks

Hi dfcamara,

We do not have a link to download the beta but it is old software anyway. The final release is ready for distribution. We plan to announce general availability soon.

Hello ULudwig,

I got version 1.2.27 of the 3DConnexion driver working with Fedora 8.
(kernel 2.6.24.5-85.fc8)

I had to install compat-openmotif-2.2.3-7.fc8 to get it working on my systems.

The Blender version that is distributed under Fedora 8 is newer than the version supplied by http://www.graphicall.org/ but it lacks support for NDOF devices.
I used this URL: http://www.3dconnexion.com/solutions/blender.php
I had to install some RPMs and create symlinks to get the prebuild version of Blender working:

yum install ilmbase-1.0.1-1.fc8 OpenEXR-libs-1.6.1-3.fc8
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libImath.so.6 libImath.so.2
ln -s libIex.so.6 libIex.so.2
ln -s libIlmImf.so.6 libIlmImf.so.2
ln -s libHalf.so.6 libHalf.so.2

I also got the Space Navigator PE working with the GIMP using this URL:
viewtopic.php?t=1917

Too bad that GoogleEarth crashes at startup on my systems.
So I have no test results for that..

kind regards,

E. Kastelijn

Hi E. Kastelijn,

thanks for your feedback about your experience. We appreciate this as it is helpful for us and other users, too.

Concerning Google Earth: unfortunately the Linux version of Google Earth does not support our devices. We are in contact with Google, but pressure from users like you could be a great help here.
