Tapped holes in base for custom mounting

Post by StephenM »

So many people that use the 3D mice are "inventors", and as such we tend to like customizing our stuff.

Adding a few tapped holes in the base would allow users to mount the unit in custom applications, such as: armchair arm rests, custom wrist rests, direct to the desk, automotive uses, wheelchair controller, etc.

I find my desk surface at work is slightly textured, and very slippery. As a result I'm always chasing the mouse around the desk.
It's very frustrating. I really just want to bolt it down.
Now I'm forced to design and build, or buy, some kind of base/wrist support for it, largely to keep it in place.

Here's one for sale:

Here's one you can print yourself:

Now just imagine if the mouse had a simple pattern of maybe three tapped holes on the bottom.
They'd be invisible for most users, but would open up tons of possibilities for custom uses.
Use the same standard thread as camera mounts, 1/4-20, and open up the possibilities even further.

As it is, the curved geometry makes incorporating the mouse into anything very challenging.

Hope someone there likes this idea.
If so, you can send me one as thanks. ;)

Cheers,
Stephen
