Can't get the space navigator to work in SL...

Post by flyermcl »

Hi, I just bought the 3d connexion spacenavigator but can't seem to get it to work in Second Life at all.
First I could just zoom in and out of the avatar's head (going in and out of mouselook). Then I tried to re-install it
but now it won't even work at all in sl.

I've tried both with Firestorm and the standard SL viewer from Secondlife.com.
In the joystick configuration the device its called "3D Connexion KMJ Emulator" (it wasn't called "emulator" before re-install).

But still Firestorm = Nothing, SL Viewer = Able to zoom in and out of avies head still.
While in mouselook = No effect in either viewer (except the ability to zoom back out of ML in SL viewer).. :/

Any help would greatly appriciated!

Second Life has built the support for 3D devices into their software. Their wiki links have information on using 3Dconnexion devices in Second Life with both the official software and the 3DxWare 10 drivers.

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Flycam
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SpaceNavigator

SecondLife supports a single controller. Having a game controller connected will prevent SecondLife from recognizing a 3Dconnexion device. You need to enable the 3D device in SecondLife : under Edit Preferences – Input and Camera there is a ‘Joystick Setup’ button at the bottom of the page . Check the Enable Joystick-SpaceNavigator box at the top of the Joystick Configuration page.
.......SecondLife Navigation Bounces Back

[ SpaceMouse Wireless and SpacePilot PRO only ]

The SpaceMouse Wireless and SpacePilot PRO act differently in SecondLife than the other 3Dconnexion devices. The object under control, or the view, springs back to center when the device cap springs back to center. This is not the desired behavior when controlling an avatar.

To make it work correctly, open the SecondLife preference settings [ Preferences - Move and view - Other devices ]. You will find an option for "3D Cursor". Uncheck this option to correct the springing back to center behavior. This checkbox toggles SecondLife between "relative" and "absolute" mode for interpreting the data coming from 3Dx devices.

Contact Second life if you have questions since they implemented the support directly into their application.

I'm having the precise same issue.

Have been through the SL wiki page (which actually doesn't say a lot in terms of configuration, just how things "should" work). Have enabled the SN via the SL Preference > Move and View, etc. All i'm getting is zooming in and out of my avatar - no flycam on clicking the left button, no avatar movement.

The problem with 3DConnextion SpaceNavigator and Second Life seems to be with the version 10 drivers not working with Second LIfe. See this blog posting for more information: http://blog.nalates.net/2014/08/28/3dco ... cond-life/. I was able to get SpaceNavigator to work well with Firestorm by using legacy drivers for SpaceNavigator. I downloaded the drivers here: http://www.3dconnexion.com/service/legacy-driver.html, and used version 3.16.3 r1447 drivers.
