Hi bp9 -

The "not recognized" response would also happen if the command is run in a different folder than the one where your installer [3DxSoftware64_v3-17-6_r1586] is located.

As ngomes mentioned - copy the file to a folder, for instance C:\temp
Open the command prompt and move to that folder before entering the command.

If your command prompt is at C:\Documents and Settings\login name , enter
cd c:\temp

The 'cd' changes directories so it will change the command prompt location to C:\temp. When you enter the command to generate the install log, it starts the installer and documents what happens. That is the reason you need to run the command from the same place the 3Dconnexion installer is located.

Following Barbara's directions, do you still see the "command not recognized" error?

We're trying to reproduce what you are seeing but it seems to be isolated to your system. Can you please provide a description of the steps that you're following? For example,
  1. Download installation package 3DxSoftware64_v3-17-6_r1586.exe and check signature
  2. Copy the package file to empty folder at C:\testfolder
  3. Open a command-prompt, change directory to C:\testfolder
  4. Run command ...
  5. etc

You need to change the directory. This means typing the command:

Code: Select all

cd c:\temp
.

You can also try to separately install the package that seems to be failing. The package is distributed by Microsoft and can be downloaded from this page.

ok i followed what you said and continued to barbara's post from before:
after i entered in the command prompt----> cd c:\temp----> 3DxSoftware64_v3-17-6_r1586 /c:"3DxSoftware64 /a /z'/logpath=c:\temp'"
im need to follow this part :
How to generate MSI log files when changing a current installation

In order to generate MSI log files when changing (repairing/removing/updating) a current installation, the below procedure can be followed:
1. Open the Registry Editor and open the key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{BAFCA6AC-8B37-405B-B57E-C1D45DE70ACC}

2. Copy the contents of the value "ModifyPath" to a command-line prompt.

3. Append a space and the following text string to the command line:
-z"/logpath=c:\temp"
where c:\temp is the folder where the MSI logs will be created.

Do not use a folder path with spaces.

4. Execute the command: the normal updated/repair/remove dialogue will appear.

5. Select the desired option and let the installer complete the change.

i followed step 1 and opened the registry editor but i dont have a file that called:" {BAFCA6AC-8B37-405B-B57E-C1D45DE70ACC}"

what do i do now >?

Have you tried installing the problematic component stand alone?

Hi bp9 -

When you entered the command at C:\temp> it should have started the installer and generated a .log file there.

Did you see 'Extracting 3DxSoftware64 ...' after entering the command ?

The installer extracts the .MSI files like 3DxWare64.msi. You would only use the registry step if you are trying to generate a log from .MSI files.

That's why ngomes asked if you've tried installing the .MSI component itself.

If Ad-Aware is installed on the computer, set Ad-Aware to manual mode, and then quit Ad-Watch before starting the installation.Other similar secuirty applications may need to be disabled thru Msconfig.
