v3.1.8 and SketchUp v6 on XP SR2

Post by RHIZO »

Despite a new xp install and a fresh 3.1.8 SN driver, SketchUp v.6.0.312 menus flicker badly when clicked but ONLY when tilting/pushing/twisting the SpaceNavigator cap. :x

Any suggestions for fixing this annoying problem? I haven't been able to use SN since upgrading to SU 6 and there have been no new betas in over a month.

Hi RHIZO,
Apologises for the late reply. We have not been able to reproduce the issue you describe. Is this something that is still affecting you?

Yes, it still does it with v.3.2.2.

Hi RHIZO,
Do send us your system details, particularly the graphic card information.

Hi RHIZO,
Unfortunately, we do not have a similar hardware to your configuration.
I do note, thought, that ATI is shipping version 7.4 of their "Display Driver" for series X1600.
We believe the problem is related to your graphics set-up and we suggest you try the newest version.

Hi ngomes,

Installed ATI 7.4 driver but still the flickering problem continues. Notice it's also a problem in Rhino 4 menus.

It's not unusual for programs to put their menus in overlay planes. If your graphics card doesn't have hardware overlay planes, it may have to simulate these in software. This can cause long delays, flicker etc. I have an X1300 that has this problem. I'd take a look through the graphics card settings to see if you can reallocate the memory differently.

Hi RHIZO,
Notice it's also a problem in Rhino 4 menus.
The support for our devices is native in Rhino (implementation developed and maintained by the application editor). Have you logged a support request with them?

Also, the flickering issue you're referring to only appears when the menus are opened. Is that correct?

ngomes: I haven't contacted McNeel yet. My copy is an evaluation version but still I'll ask them about it.

As for the flickering, yes it only occurs when the Menus are open and my hand is on SpaceNavigator. If I remove my hand from the cap all is fine.

jwick: I'll take a look at my settings, thanks.

Also, the odd thing is that none of this happened in SU v.5...
