Maya 7 + XP + Traveler + 3.0.9 drivers == no love

hello

i'm running an xp machine (sp2, fully patched), and just bought a spacetraveler for use with maya 7. after installation of the latest non-beta drivers (3.0.9), the traveler works fine within google earth. however, i get errors our of maya's script editor at maya boot time:

if i touch the traveler, i get a slew of these messages:

// Error: Cannot find procedure "_3DxOnMotionEvent". //

and maya does not respond to the traveler.

i've ensured that the 3DxMaya.mll is loaded (and auto-loading), and the "C3Dx*.mel" files are all in the proper maya startup directory.

if i install the 3.1.3 beta drivers, i get the same behavior (and phone support said they could not help me if i used them). so what am i supposed to do to get the traveler working within maya?

also, the 3DxMaya.chm file says i can "Click on the Control Panel button to open the 3Dconnexion Control Panel for Maya." where does this button exist in the maya UI?
