Winxp wont re-detect my Spaceball4000

Post by SharonG »

Hello,
I own a Spaceball 4000 FLX (serial) and just bought the new SpaceNavigator Personal Edition and installed it instead.

After a while I've decided that my good old Spaceball 4000 was better and removed the SpaceNavigator and his drivers and tried to reinstall my old Spaceball.

Unfortunaly my Winxp wont realize that I am plugging in the Spaceball.

I already tried:
- uninstall / reinstall the drivers (ver 2.8)
- unplug / re-plug the Spaceball
- do a hardware scan (throw the "add new hardware" wizard at the control panel)
- check / uncheck the Solidworks plugin at the "add/remove programs"
- combinations of the above.

my Winxp just dont want to "find" my Spaceball - PLEASE HELP ME.

Running WinXP Pro, and unable to detect my serial Spaceball 4000.

Installed the 2.8.2 package, checked all connections, and WinXP does not seem to know where the device is.

If there is a list of steps to entirely delete WinXP's history of having been connected to the device (e.g. registry entries and so on) so that a truly fresh connection can be made, I would be grateful.

Winxp wont re-detect my Spaceball4000

Hi SharonG, hi buchman

Unfortunately just removing a new driver version doesn't help. You have to delete the folders created by the driver (3Dconnexion), they are located under the following paths:

1. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\
2. C:\Program Files\

Afterwards you have to restart your system.

As a final step you have to run regedit and remove the registry records (3Dconnexion), if they are still available under:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER - SOFTWARE

After these steps you will be able to install the version 2.8.2 of the driver. (Remember: you have to remove the software with the "Add/Remove Software" Windows utility.)
