Loud mouse wheel, and Vectric compatibility

Post by Ollie78 »

Hi everyone

I have just bought the spacemouse wireless kit. It is fantastic, the spacemouse is brilliant for fusion 360 which is my reason for purchasing it.
I have a question about the cadmouse, it works very well and I am getting used to the shape (before I was using a much smaller logitech).
Is the mouse wheel supposed to be noisy?
It is not loud when actually scrolling but makes a noise whenever you go to put your finger on it or take your finger off it. So if scrolling a few pages everytime you take pressure off it clicks.
It may seem like a minor issue but it is really annoying me. It`s like the spindle it runs on is loose or something, just seems like too much play in it or something.
I have never noticed this on a mouse before, my logitec is silent in comparison. Just want to know if this is standard or if its a faulty one really.

Secondly, I wonder if anyone has succesfully used their Spacemouse for any of the Vectric products (I have Vcarve desktop).
I just want to use it for pan and zoom really, I know that vcarve is not a true 3D design software but I use Fusion for complex stuff and Vcarve for projects involving text and stuff. So I went from fusion to vectric after using the spacemouse and tried to use it.
The software knows it is in vcarve 10 as it states so in the box on the 3DXware, I set it for pan and zoom only in the menu but no inputs register when using the spacemouse puck.
Its like its halfway there but not working.
I have been on the vectric forum and it looks like there is no official support though a few others have asked in the past.
Hoping someone has a workaround or something.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Ollie,

no, there should be no extra noise with the wheel. Please contact our Technical Support Team. They will help you with an exchange of the product.
You can find a list of supported applications on our website. Vcarve is not listed.

In order to use it with 3Dconnexion devices, support for 3D devices would need to be added inside this software. Adding 3D device support to an application is determined by the application developer rather than by 3Dconnexion. We have an SDK [Development Kit] which any software developer can download at no cost and which allows the integration of 3D device support in proprietary software. Please see here for more details.

We advise our customers to contact the Customer Service of applications that are lacking support and request it be added in future versions of their software. The decision to include 3D support in their development schedule is often influenced by the level of customer interest.

I recommend that you contact Vectric and express your wish to make clear that this is a demand from their customers.

Thanks UtaSH

I will contact the technical support team as you suggest.

As for the issue with Vcarve and all Vectric software including Aspire which is deos have 3d modelling capabilities and is quite expensive.
I have asked on the forum and it seems like there is not huge demand for the support.
Most feel it is not necessary (which is technically true) and I guess the number of people who are using it and also own a Spacemouse are a small minority.
For me it seems like it would be a benefit as I have the hardware and it just seems crazy not to be able to use it, especially when you have been just using it in another programme, my left hand just thinks it can use it.
I was hoping for something along the lines of an overlay or "general" type of settings as a way to sort of force the software to understand the spacemouse inputs as "click middle button and move mkouse left" for example.
I would imagine someone with programming skills could implement your controls from the SDK quite quickly if they so desired.

I will email vectric directly about this just to see what they say.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi

Just an update to say that I have received a new cadmouse wireless through customer support.
The new one is perfect without the loose clicky mouse wheel.
This is excellent service and is to be commended.

Thanks

Ollie
