Can a spacemouse be used as a regular mouse? Leaning the mouse left/right moves the pointer left/right?
Can the 2 side buttons be programmed for left/right click?
I have a unique mouse requirement that might be met by the 3D spacemouse.

Yes it can. It takes a little XML editing. The GUI won't help you. But it can be done.
It doesn't make a great mouse. It is a joystick after all, with all those limitations.
But if you want something stationary, or that can be switched between 2D and 3D, it may be worth a try.
