I attempted to update 10.5.10 to 10.5.12, and the installer rolled back, and gave me the Error 1603 message.
I see on the forum that there is some history of this, so I tried the following:
Rebooted.
Installed 3DxWare64_v10-5-11_r2875.exe
Rebooted.
Uninstalled.
Rebooted.
Attempted 3DxWare64_v10-5-12_r2890.exe. Error 1603
Tried the above procedure with 3DxWare64_v10-4-3_r2328.exe, then 3DxSoftware64_v3-16-3_r1447.exe. Error 1603 both times.
Attempted manual installation, per instructions on page 5 of 3Dconnexion_Admin_Guide_v10-5-3_rev11.pdf. Error 1603. Attempted command-line quiet installation also on page 5. Nothing seemed to happen, there.
Installed in log mode (log file attached).

Hello mhoopes,
thank you for the log file. The error comes from a part where a system file is installed. I will send you instructions by email.

Re: 3DxWare64_v10-5-12_r2890 installation: Error 1603
By the way, the system in question is on Windows 7 x64. Also, the only version of 3DxWare so far that doesn't generate Error 1603 on installation on my current system is 3DxSoftware64_v3-16-3_r1447.exe. That's too far back for me. Obviously, there's something that uninstallation/update is not clearing up in my system, since 10.5.10 worked fine.
The instructions in your email seem to target an error that I'm not getting. 3dxhid or 3dxkmj aren't generating errors. 3DxWinCore64 is:

Re: 3DxWare64_v10-5-12_r2890 installation: Error 1603
Uta sent me his intended instructions, which involved running the following commands in an elevated command line. That worked for me.
1. Ensure all 3Dconnexion software has been uninstalled.
2. Unpack sp3_display_r12688.zip to an empty directory:
3. Open an elevated command prompt (run as administrator).
4. Change to the directory where the zip file linked above was unpacked.
5. Run the following command to force the installation of sp3_display:
pnputil.exe -a sp3_display.inf
This command will output something like: “Published name : oem##.inf” where “##” is a two-digit number.
6. Run the command to remove the just-installed driver (make sure to use the correct file name):
pnputil.exe -f -d oem##.inf
7. Attempt a re-installation of 3DxWare with logs.
[Error 1603 persisted, on to next step:]

2. Unpack 3dxkmj_r9452_x64.zip to an empty directory:

Re: 3DxWare64_v10-5-12_r2890 installation: Error 1603
Hello,
I am seeing the exact same issue, a 1603 error specific to 3DxWinCore. I would like to try the steps listed, how can I obtain the two ZIP files referenced in the solution?
Thanks,
PeterB

Hi PeterB,
you can contact our Technical Support Team. If you use the web form to report the problem the colleagues will reply with an email and you can send them the log file. In the log file we can see which module fails to install and send you the correct instructions.
