Placing components in Solidworks assembly mode

Post by Carltonium »

Is there a way to rotate and place components in an assembly with a Space Pilot? While it's handy to be able to move an entire assembly, it's a little frustrating not being able to pre position un mated components when setting up an assembly.

Am I missing something?

Hi Carltonium,

try button #3 if you have the default mapping on your buttons. If not open the Button Mapping Editor and then open the category "Assembly". You should there find an entry "Move Component" (and "Rotate Component"). Please let me know if this solves your problem.

Actually, it sounds more like he's looking for the option "Moved Selected Objects"

In your 3Dcontrol Properties box, put a check next to "Move Selected Objects" on the Options tab.

That will let you move a part around in an assembly while it is selected. When no parts are selected, you will control the assembly view.
