3ds Max 2010 not saving [-] and [+] button settings.
I posted a similar problem before but there was no fix.
I can reproduce this behavior on 3 separate workstations. One of them runs Vista 64 and the other two are XP Pro 32.
(1) Start 3ds Max 2010
(2) Open the 3DxWare Control Panel by double-clicking it’s icon in the Windows Task Tray or choosing “Start” --> “All Programs” --> “3Dconnexion” --> “3Dconnexion 3DxWare” --> “Show 3DxWare Control Panel”
(3) Confirm that the Control Panel says “3D Studio Max – your username” is the current configuration in use.
(4) Make sure “Automatically Save Configurations” is checked in the “Options” pull-down menu.
(5) Change the settings of the [-] and [+] keys to something other than their default.
(6) Go back into 3ds Max and make sure the your changes work.
(7) Close and restart 3ds Max.
(8) Open the 3DxWare Control Panel and you’ll see that the [-] and [+] keys have reverted back to their default value.
This always worked before, but now it doesn’t. This is a bug that should be fixed. I have been told before that the [-] and [+] keys are not really inteded to be changed, but then why are the changable in the control panel and why did it always work before 3ds Max 2010?

I am also having issues getting my space explorer to keep custom functions for the + and - buttons. I mainly use Pro-E 4.0, but it does'nt appear to save for any applications.
It will hold the function until modes (modeling to drawing) or applications change. then it reverts back to the default. This has only started to happen since I installed driver vers 3.7.16, I updated to 3.7.18, same results.

I new I couldn't be alone out there. I will also reiterate that this also used to work just fine for me. It is only in these newer drivers that this problem exists.

It actually worked better on my computer at home which a home build with plenty of power to play any game and run any app. I want.
My work computer is a Dell Precision T7400, 4 gigs , quad processor, and Quadro FX 4600. You'd think this one would run better. But not so. Maybe they will get the bugs worked out soon.

The [+] and [-] keys are not available to change in the 3ds Max GUI. That is way I've always made the chages in the 3dxware Control Panel...

Can I please request that you not remove them from being customizable? Once the sensitivity is set, rarely do you ever change it. This would make these two buttons virtually useless. What is the advantage to that? How will the product be better if you make it less useful?
This is very important for me. Please let me know who I can talk to if this forum will not consider my request...
Thanks,
Valen

You've got to be kidding
Valen,
I don't think you understand. This is product support based on the Prussian model: They will tell you what works best for you.
I know they're located southwest of Munich, and the Engineering leadership hasn't always even been German. But, ever since the programming moved to Germany six years ago the approach has been very heavy handed.
Do you have an old driver that works for you? I always keep a collection of old drivers around for when 3dc Engineering screws up. My problem is I upgraded to a Pro and, as far as I can tell, a SolidWorks driver with working button mapping has yet to be created.
It is my general policy with all software not to upgrade if what I have is working. Compared to SolidWorks, the 3dc guys aren't all that bad.

I can not use an old driver, unfortunately, because only the new drivers work with 3ds Max 2010.
Any update on this? If this forum is not adequate, then who can I talk to about keeping the customizability of the [+] and [-] keys?
I've provided good reasons for keeping them customizable and for fixing their current problems. I don't believe that I have yet her a "good" reason for removing their customizability...

Ouch, well then you're in the same bind I'm in.
And, unfortunately you'er not getting a straight answer from the moderator. He has yet to say why the +/- keys can't be reassigned. It looks to me like the old Prussian thing again. You can't reprogram them because we know that you don't need to. About the only thing I can suggest is to call tech support and get them to log your request.
If it's any consolation, the +/- are not programmable in the SolidWorks Add-in either.
