Can I use as my default mouse?

I have a 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator 3D.

I want to use it to get around in windows. I had assumed this would work similar to the IBM type mouse on the Thinkpads. You know, inbetween the G and the H keys. Am I missing something here? Because I can't get it to work unless it's in a specific program.

That ia how it works I'm afraid. Your SpaceNavigator will only function in applications that are aware of it and have routines to use it.

If you want it to function as a joystick type device then do a search on "RBC9 joystick driver". This may do what you want.
