Space Navigator coating peeling

I've had a SpaceNavigator for a few months now and have recently noticed that the rubber textured coating is peeling off. I only use it about twice a week with my laptop, and it sits on a counter the rest of the time. It's not stored in direct sunlight. I have two SpacePilots that have never shown any signs of peeling. Is my SN just a manufacturing dud?
