SpaceNavigator crashes Photoshop CS3

Post by PepperAlf »

Hello,

when I shift/tilt the SpaceNavigator in Photoshop CS3, the image scrolls as it's supposed to do. But as soon as I do it a second time, Photoshop crashes.
Zooming and changing the brush size however works. 3D Max 2008 works perfectly also.

Is this a known problem and is there a solution?
In Topic t=1752 the same problem is addressed.

I'm using a german keyboard layout and a german version of Photoshop. I'm also using a Razer Pro|Type keyboard. De-installing its driver seemed to solve the problem at first, but after a few minutes Photoshop crashed anyway.

Any help is much appreciated,
Alfred

I emailed some code to help debug this issue. Please try it and send back any crash logs you get.

Thanks

Hello,

thanks for your help!
Photoshop doesn't crash anymore using your file! Unfortunately navigation isn't working very well with that plugin: panning simultaneously triggers some zooming for example. I guess it's because of just being a plugin for testing purposes?
Anyway, is it a useful/sufficient information for your diagnosis, that Photoshop doesn't crash with that file?

Hmm, I was actually hoping it would continue to crash and we'd have more information on the crash. Right now what this tells me is PS is not processing keyboard events correctly and it's not a plug-in issue per-se.

I'll try another experiment and send it to you.

I 'm experiencing the same issue; here are the details:
I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1, english localized with italian keyboard layout. The SpaceNavigator PE driver is 3.5.6 and a Wacom tablet driver is also installed. The OS is Window Vista Home Premium.
The error is a memory access violation raised by the photoshop.exe module
and after the crash the CTRL key seems to remain pressed until it's physically pressed again. Regards.

I have the SpaceNavigator since 2 jears. The first time I used it with Photoshop CS2 an I had no Problems. Since Photoshop CS 3 no Driver Revision works correct. After a very short time Photoshop crashed. Also the newest Version 3.6.4 do the same. It is a shame, that i can not work with the SpaceNavigator since 1 year.

Just an update on this. I've sent everyone above a test plugin that will hopefully either fix the issue or give more information on what is happening. Once enough data is available and a fix is complete, I'll make this new plugin available for download until it is officially released with our next driver update.

Stay tuned for more details...

A fix for this issue will be available in an upcoming 3.6.6 driver release. Please check our driver download area in the next week or two for news on when this will be available.

I see the Info at work an so I cannot test it.

Is there anything changed for Photoshop CS3?

Does anyone test this Release with Photoshop CS3?
Does Photoshop CS3 now works without crashes?

thanks very much

Simultaneous pan and zoom is something we'd like to add as a feature (it was never there in the past). Unfortunately, we are not able to do this with the current Photoshop API available to us. We've talked with Adobe about this and hopefully it will be possible in the future.
