ugraded Windows XP SP1 vs. SP2

Post by DeniseL »

Hi,
I just got my SpaceNavigator PE! I'm excited to use it on my
XP SP1 system. From reading previous posts I understand it won't
run on SP1. And when I try to install it, it checks my computer, sees
it is SP1 and then terminates.

My SP1 has been upgraded to include almost everything in SP2
(except some virus checking stuff I think). Given that, why can't
I install the software on my system?

Could it be that it WOULD install fine, but it isn't even trying because
some registry variable that it checks says SP1?
If that is so, I would think it would be trivial for 3dconnexion to add
an install option that would let the process continue anyway.
When might such an option be added?
Thanks.

btw, my registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\currentVersion\CSDVersion says
"Service Pack 1", but BuildLab says
2600.xpsp2.050301-1526

Could the first registry entry be what is being checked when maybe
the second would be a better guide?

thanks again.

Hi DeniseL,
Version 3.0 of our software is indeed SP2 only. We do not directly check any registry key. We simple query the OS for the version and service pack info.

We are currently working (testing phase) of our next release, version 3.1. Support for Windows 2000 and XP, XP SP1 will be added.

Do note that some product, like the "3Dconnexion Picture Viewer", will remain available only in SP2 and above.
