Bluescreen might be fixed by a simple reinstall

Post by VIDesignStudios »

Sharing my knowledge after much agony. Using Windows 7 64bit using SpaceMouse Pro:

-DO NOT plug in SpaceMouse before or during driver installation.
-Update to the latest driver, there's one as recent as October 2016 right now.
-Uninstall drivers prior to updating driver, just in case.
-During install, uncheck programs you won't use, and uncheck the LCD Screen plugin if your mouse doesn't have one, just in case.
-Use a 2.0 port instead of a 3.0 port if possible

I'm not sure which of the above steps solved my problem, so I'm listing all of my troubleshooting variables. Before this, the mouse would work, I could finish the tutorial, but my computer would crash to bluescreen at very random times. Sometimes the moment I plug in the SpaceMouse USB, sometimes after hours of inactivity, sometimes right in the middle of use. It would never bluescreen if the SpaceMouse was not plugged in.

I still have one problem using Maya 2012. It works anyway, but there's an error code on startup:
Error: Cannot find procedure "C3Dconnexion_SettingsChangedHandler".

Nevermind! Still crashes. This time upon waking up from the screen saver. I can't use this mouse at all. Any help?

Have you tried plugging it into a powered USB hub? Perhaps the PC motherboard cannot supply enough power to your SpaceMouse Pro anymore, and is flaking out - causing bluescreens! (I've had issues with the old USB ports on my PC losing USB power - Sandy Bridge ASUS motherboard from 2012).

Hello oyklepe,

have you verified if this is related to the 3D mouse? For example: have you tried if other input devices (USB) are working correctly?

Have you tried different USB ports on our machine?

Hello,

Yes it only happens when 3D mouse is connected.
Have tried all different usb ports but same happens (usb2 and usb3).

Usually happens when we plug in mouse, redirect mouse to citrix desktop or when logging off. Bang into BSOD. And sometimes 'random' when in use.
But when it doesn't BSOD then it is working fine.

Hello oykleppe,

can you find some more information on the reason for the Blue Screen? Usually there is a line more at the top of the screen where it says something about the driver that crashes or the device or what ever. Perhaps you can make a photo and send it to me? Let me know once you have one and I will contact you by email.

Hi

The bluescreen referred to mup.sys

I gave up trying to fix it. So I ended up reinstalling with a clean windows 10 install. After that there has not been any issue with the 3D mouse.
