You sir are a genius! I don't care what your co-workers say about you! I have been using the spaceball since 2000 and was really upset last week when my company upgraded to SW 2016. I looked and tried everything until I took another look and stumbled on this thread. I created an account this afternoon just so I could thank you.
THANK YOU ruhal!

Stop the driver, then hover over the start driver icon and right mouse click, select more, then pick run as administrator.
Now try!
I got both my new and ancient spacepilot pros to work in SW2015 with driver 10.3.0
Best of luck
I have been using the spaceball since early 2000 and was really upset
Hello All,
I've been having issues with Spacenavigator and Solidworks. I just upgraded the drive to 10.4.3 this morning, and now I cannot access the buttons on the properties menu to modify them. Each time I open the window I get an error message "3DxSmartUi has stopped working" then the window will close. Really frustrating as I, like many of you, rely upon the buttons for shortcuts and generally to make my life easier. Real pain without them. Any ideas? Specs on my system are below.
Solidworks 2016, SP 3.0
3D Connexion SpaceNavigator 10.4.3
Windows 7, SP 1
I have been working with a SpaceNavigator for years and in Solidworks 2016 for several months. Just a few minutes ago, I was working in Solidworks when suddenly my SpaceNavigator quit working. The blue light is still on and the tutorial will work so I know it's getting input, etc. However, shutting down and restarting or loading/unloading the 3dconnexion add-in does nothing to bring my 3d mouse back. I have stopped the driver, reset defaults and restarted SW to no avail. What is going on???? Why would it suddenly stop after having been working just fine and not making any changes to settings prior to the failure???
I have an older SpacePilot that has served me well for a number of years.
Now, I would like to use in SolidWorks 2016 but am encountering a number of problems.
I've installed the latest driver, activated the Solidworks add-ins.
Works perfect in the practice mode!
However, in Solidworks the Zoom insist on rotating while zooming.
Entire movements are strange, panning, rotating, zooming.
have you verified if the device is functional in other applications? You can try with the 3Dconnexion viewer for example. If the device works fine in the viewer then it might be that the settings are messed up? See here how to clean your settings.
Did you install the latest driver for the SpacePilot - 3DxSoftware 3.18.0 - or the latest available driver - 3DxWare 10.4.10?
I have followed the "Cleaning Instructions".
I have successfully used the learning mode and demo mode after installation.
The problems only occur inside of SolidWorks 2016.
