Space Navigator not working at all

Post by rompelstilchen »

Hi,

I installed the space navigator with latest PE drivers
with each software, the device only zoom in-out. PERIOD !
does anyone else had the same issue ?

strange the demos work fine but not the other softs
strange i get the same behaviour in google-earth & blender.

The quick time demo is not working at all :-)

actualy , appart from the provided dummy(but working) cube & airplane demos, NOTHING WORK !!! :$

plz I really need a quick solution for this as I am evaluating this thing and
I need to give my opinion about it for tomorrow, and so far, well I am getting a really bad opinion of the space navigator
It's nice, I love to use it w the airplane demo, so now I only feel FRUSTRATION :-)

edit : After 5 minutes with autocad, only the zoom function is active
all others 6DOFs are gone sudently ???

sheers
Have a great day @

Hi rompelstilchen,

Start the application where you can reproduce the problem. Then, open the 3DxWare Control Panel (driver properties) and check that you have all axes enabled.

Hi rompelstilchen,

The solution for Blender is still in the testing phase. You should refer the relevant topics on the this Forum.

What other applications do you have that can support 3D mice? Also, which operating system are you using?

as I said before:

Autocad 2OO2 : works, but ends up jittering after a few minutes, need to be reset(not realy a bug?)
Blender : only zoom in out works
Google Earth : only zoom in-out works
QT VR demo : nothing works at all
3DConn demos : all working fine

Im on XP Pro(official one ;-) )

drivers : 3.4.2

Hi rompelstilchen,
Autocad 2OO2 : works, but ends up jittering after a few minutes, need to be reset(not realy a bug?)
AutoCAD performance is hardly comparable to true 3D applications. Since you're using a very old version of AutoCAD you may want to try the old plug-in still available on the "archive" section on the software downloads page.
Blender : only zoom in out works
Google Earth : only zoom in-out works
These are probably related. The only thing I can suggest is to ensure that the correct configuration is selected on the 3DxWare Control Panel (make sure the application is in the foreground before opening the control panel).
QT VR demo : nothing works at all
Do you have on your system the Apple's QuickTime plug-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer? If not, install it and then do a "repair" of your 3Dconnexion software (from the Add or Remove Programs panel).

Also, ensure that you have the latest version of GE installed. Full support for 3D mice was only available in GE v. 4.

something weird

1 - in the Options menu of the 3Dconn panel, there is a delete configuration
in the poped up window, I see only Autocad
how come Goggle earth and blender are not listed ?
I did an update after all programs are installed but still the same

2 - on the panel itself, there is a drop box wichlists "any application"
I added one for Blender but I don't see why autocad is not listed ???

3 - I have to click on the "3Dconnexion Control Panel" shortcut at reboot
is it not automaticaly set at startup ?

I keep on playing with it until I'll get it to work.damn thing ! :-)
edit : got it to work with google earth, dont know how ???
now there is another "any application-[my user name]" listed in the delete conf popup window
why is Blender not listed ? I dloaded 20070311.zip , is this not the right one ?

Regarding Blender bugs, I have a thread going here:

viewtopic.php?t=1521

You did grab the NDOF release of Blender, right? Some tips just to get you going:

- assign "Button1" to the left button on the 3DNavigator
- assign "Button2" to the right
- Crank up the overall acceleration to two or three stops from the top (in the driver)
- Download the NDOF build (smf_1-1-4_inst.tar worked well for me) and run that version of Blender. If you check the console messages you should see that the 3DX device was recognized.
- When you get into Blender, look below the view screen, there's a label that says "6dof" and the mode. You can either be in Turntable, Fly or Edit modes, so make sure you're in Fly (Turntable works backwards at the moment).

Finally, check the thread above and see if you have any of those issues, that will help!
The first thing I ever made in Blender was a cube.

I can only assign to keys and othr stuffs, not to mouse clicks

I use XP
:(

turntable or trackball do the same for me (???)

Ok, I found the bug, it was in my head, now I got the right blender NDOF
working ok but :

- only blender invert all axes :-)
- it doesn't do anything in camera view/fly mode :(
- turntable, tackball, and around selection buttons have no efect,
how do we switch from turnable to trackball? I wnt to navigate outside of selected object center
- after a while, forwrd, backwrd motion don't work anymore :( ??

any suggestions ?

Hi rompelstilchen,

The 3DxWare Control Panel loads the configuration for the application that is on the foreground. In other words, the "configuration for" pull-down menu (combo box) will only list the valid configurations for the application that has the foreground and supports a 3D mouse (which includes the "any application" configuration).

If you cannot see the 3DxWare icon on the system tray, that's because -- most likely than not -- you unchecked the option to have the driver automatically start when Windows launches. You can copy the "Start Driver" shortcut to the "Startup" folder or, perhaps it is safer, you can re-install the software.
