spaceExplorer as mo cap driver in 3d max

Post by focomoso »

Anyone know how I can use my (brand new, and much appreciated) spaceExplorer to drive motion caption controllers in max? I can't seem to find it as a device to which i can bind the tracks...

Hi,

The nearest you can get is
- set the 'Auto Key' in 3ds max,
- enable the 'Object Motion" and 'Auto Key Animation' options in the 3DxStudio Control panel
- select the object
and then move it about with the SpaceNavigator.
This will auto-increment the time line and drop keys whilst doing so.

thanks mbonk,

I'm going to play with this today. Hopefully I can wire other tracks to the object to set up a rudimentary character rig... I'll post the results here.

Worked like a charm. If the timeline is playing while you're setting keys, they get set out in time (as opposed to auto increment) which is exactly what I'm looking for. With a little more practice I'll be able to do some passable real time animation...

Hi focomoso,
Worked like a charm.
Excellent.

If you ever get one of those animations on-line, make sure to let us know. We'd love to see it.
