SpaceNavigator not working with CamWorks/SolidWorks

Post by florin »

Hi,

I'm trying to get SpaceNavigator to work with CamWorks SP4.
There is nothing in the Add-Ins related to SpaceNavigator.
CamWorks runs inside SolidWorks, so it's a SolidWorks issue at this point.
Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks

SpaceNavigator not working with CamWorks/SolidWorks

Post by agoenczi »

Hi florin

The application CamWorks is unfortunately not on our list of supported applications.

On the other hand the 3D mice (including the SpaceNavigator PE) work with SolidWorks.

As the application you named runs under SolidWorks I suppose it might have some restrictions which don't allow the use of 3D mice.

Please ask the editor of the application to integrate support for 3D mice as 3Dconnexion has a free-dowloadable SDK which offers developers the tools they need to integrate support in applications.

Hi agoenczi,

Thanks for your reply. I just talked to people from CamWorks and they say it's 3Dconnexion's part to get that driver working with CamWorks Solids (wich is a OEM SolidWorks version).
Indeed CamWorks Solids is not on the list but CamWorks is. :? - it's number 24 on the list
I was told that 3Dconnexion looks at CamWorks as being two applications when it's actually one.
I know SpaceNavigator works with SolidWorks but at this point I'm contemplating returning the device since it's not working with CamWorks.

CamWorks

Hi florin

Sorry this was a double mistake:

1. The application is indeed recorded in the list.

2. The application will be removed from the list.

Hi florin,

If "CamWorks" is an OEM SolidWorks application, then it may be possible to for to us to extend the add-in to CamWorks.

Try the following, go to the installation folder of the SolidWorks add-in (normally, this is "C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks") and drag-and-drop the "TDxSW.dll" file in CamWorks (or use File - Open to load the same file).

If that works, then it should be possible to add support.

Follow ngomes path from his post above
C:\Program Files\3Dconnexion\3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware\3Dconnexion Add-In for SolidWorks
right click on the TDxSW.dll left click on copy.

Now go and locate the Camworks folder and paste the file into it.

After words make sure your driver is running. Open Camworks and click file open.
browse the the camworks folder and select the file.
This should now launch the plugin and add it to your addins folder.

The use of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is very much an action of last resort and only when there is a problem with the installation.

That's not the case here. We do not recommend customers to remove 3Dconnexion software using the "CleanUp" tool as it will not uninstall the software correctly (it simply deletes entries in a database). To remove all 3Dconnexion software, the recommend action is to use the Add or Remove Programs panel as with any other Windows applications.

This worked for my Space Pilot Pro so it should work for you also. Basically the add-in is registered under Solidworks, not Camworks Solids.

open the registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>SOLIDWORKS>ADDINS
expand and click each entry until you see 3DConnexion in the right pane
right-click the key you found and choose export
remember where you save this file (I use my desktop)
Find the file you saved, right-click it and choose edit
replace "\SolidWorks\" with "\CAMWorksSolids2008\" in the HKEY line
(if you have a different version change it accordingly)
save and close the file
Now right-click the REG file and choose merge
After the merge is complete start Camworks Solids and the add-in should be there. You may have to go to Add-Ins and turn it on.

YOU are responsible for working in your registry. If you are not comfortable doing it then don't.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Performance problems camworks/solidworks

Post by cheezum »

Hi,

I use SW2009 with Camworks 2009 SP0. It seems that the CW2009 Utilities Add-In is causing real performance problems with my SpacePilot. When I unload the Utilities Add-in from Camworks my frame-rate dramatically increases.
