Mac OS X Sketchup pro 8 can't get plugin menu

Post by little_farquhar »

Hi All, greetings from New Zealand. 1st proper post

Just got a SN with USB connector (damn missed wireless version by a day or so).
I have an iMac 8,1 running snow leopard (10.6.8) and Sketchup Pro (version 8.0.3161) and after installing 3DX software from disk/online update, SN lit up and worked in Google Earth and then also in Sketchup Pro after a restarts. I am running latest drivers from 3DX too, - 10.0.14. SN lights up, after launching Sketckup, 3D mouse news launches showing how adjustments can be made in pop up menu! The problem I have is finding /seeing / using this pop-up context/ pull out menu in Sketchup.
I have checked /library/app..support/google sketchup 8/sketchup/plugins & has 3DxSketchUp.bundle.plugin &3DxSketchUp.rb
I have searched toolbars/ menus without success - am I missing something?
in sys properties 3D connexion tools tab confirms firmware 4.35 & 3DxWare 10 - version 10.0.14 no driver version shown.

I also have a macbook pro, 2011 - running lion (10.7.5) and sketchup Pro (version 8.0.3161 - as above) and after installing all as above
3D connexion applet in system preferences (as it is above) but - under applications - it lists goggle sketchup (in above machine on snow leopard - lists sketchup)
after selecting google sketchup in application list - i get tabs device-application-buttons-advanced and selecting these gives
3D connexion devices found driver version 1.7 - firmware 4.35.
In Sketchup again I can not find SN pop up menu? again checked support folders has 3DxSketchUp.bundle.plugin &3DxSketchUp.rb as above.

As an aside tried demos on both setups -3D Demo & 3Dx Axis worked on iMac (QTVR not available for some reason) on Mac Book pro 3D Demo & 3Dx Axis worked but not QTVR - maybe not relevant but mentioned as others have posted issues re these.

In both situations the 3D mouse news pop-up declares " (pop-up) it can be opened with the menu or panel button (left button for spacenavigator products (on your 3D mouse).
Manual not helpful for specific application usage.

I need to change SN to camera mode to use for architectural modelling.

Am I missing something here?

Can anyone shed any light on this? As at the moment, all I have an expensive paper weight!

Thanks
Barbara

Hello little_farquhar -

With the Space Navigator active in SketchUp, open 3Dconnexion Properties to the Buttons tab and press 'Use defaults'.
This will return the left button mapping to the pop-up menu where you can change SketchUp modes.

In SketchUp press the left Space Navigator button to open the pop-up menu .

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for the the help, but your instructions unfortunately did not correct my issue.

After selecting "use defaults" button as suggested - left & right buttons were assigned with left & right?
However, after removing all 3Dconnexion installs (also checking hidden library dir) and starting again installing 10.0.13 (previous latest driver for Mac) and NOT installing plugin.
YES. on the first install I also installed the bundled formZ plugin that is part of the 3Dconnexion disk, assuming it (a plugin) was needed for sketchup, after reading its notes realised it was for Autodesk Maya - (Auto-des-sys's FormZ v6.1) only.

After the restart all worked perfectly on both machines - not sure if it is the earlier software or the plugin, so will upgrade to latest driver and see if all remains working.

I have embarrassingly posted this in the slim hope it may help another unfortunate soul that has taken the same steps.
