Access to 3dxsrv for apps running on virtual display (VNC)

Post by karthikb »

Are applications running on the virtual displays allowed to access the 3dxsrv ? The 3D mouse operations worked fine when running the test apps (xcube, xvalue) on root display (:0) wheres the same exits when running through VNC... The VNC displays can support GLX/OpenGL applications as i run them through VirtualGL

Hello karthikb -

3dxsrv runs only when the device is detected. The input from the 3Dconnexion device must be forwarded by the remote software. 3dxsrv would exit in VNC if it is not seeing the device input.

While VNC is not a software we test with, there are some reports that VNC and other remote solutions are being used with our devices. They are standard HID USB devices. Each software that forwards such input has options or commands for making it available on the remote side.

So far the only remote software certified for use with 3Dconnexion devices is HP RGS . Testing was done in Windows but there is also a Linux version.

Hello karthib,

it might be that the display is a different one if you run it via VNC. You can start the driver with the option -display :1 or whatever you have.
