Problem with Spacepilot on HPUX on a C8000 workstation

Post by PatBomb »

I got a problem during Test on a C8000 workstation with OS HP11.11 (11-i) with a USB SpacePilot. As told in installation procedure, to fix the low LCD performance issue, the workstation must have "PHKL_35011 - s700_800 11.11 Cumulative USB Driver patch" installed.

But the problem is when that patch is installed, i'm no longer able to use CatiaV5 and VPM (VirtualPartManager), only CatiaV4 works. CatiaV5 freezes just before any part handling and VPM freezes on startup.

I also tried the procedure on an older C3750 workstation (with the same OS) and all works fine; LCD works quickly.

I tried on 2 different C8000 workstation, (with different configuration on each) and i got the same behavior.

Hi PatBomb,

this is a weird behavior of your C8000s. It seems that you have a set of patches installed that do not work properly together. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the different HP-UX patches and levels. Please discuss this issue with your HP-UX support. Would be nice if you share your solution here. Thanks.

It seems to be an unrelated conflict with to HP-UX patch PHKL_30310 and PHKL_35011.

I have to do more test...

I keep you informed!

That's my final procedure for installation:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SpacePilot and SpaceTraveler Installation instruction on HP-UX Workstations

Document reference:
http://216.110.190.130/support/drivers/ ... s_HPUX.txt
=> This document is principally a commented version of this document.

To install the files for 3DxWare for Unix to the corresponding directories and to run the driver you need root privileges.

The files for the driver are provided with the following archive:
HP-UX: 3dxware-hpux-v1-2-17.tar.gz

STEP 1
Prerequisites:
HP-UX: HP-UX 11 is required
Patches:
PHKL_35011 - s700_800 11.11 Cumulative USB Driver patch
(this patch fixes low LCD performance issue with the SpacePilot
and thus is highly recommended with that device(!),
optional for all other devices but improves overall USB performance)

1.1
Remove patch PHKL_30310
=> Test shows that patch causes important problems (principally on HP C8000 workstation)
