Open-sourcing the 3rd party application plug-ins?

Post by sparker »

I'm sure this has been kicked around before. But wouldn't life be easier for 3dconnexion (upstream) if they just open-sourced the plug-ins and allowed the community to do the work and shape their evolution? I'm assuming all of these plug-ins are using the standard sdk and no proprietary code exists that isn't already available in that api. If I'm wrong, then I understand why.

Maya 2008 is what has prompted this question, btw.

Hi Steve,

apologies for my late reply!

We currently have just two plugins under Linux: Blender and Maya.

The solution for Blender is already open source and for Maya there are no current plans to open the sources.
If there is a change on that status, we will post the information on this Forum.

Best regards,

Actually, I didn't realize the Blender plug was source. Thanks.
