I have seen this issue before, but at this time we are unable to reproduce it in-house. As you can imagine this makes it difficult to solve. I have opened an internal bug (tracking #4207) to help track this issue. I hope we will be able to solve it soon.

renderfarmer, Do you get any other errors? Maybe something with an error code? I'm not surprised that the SpacePilot works without the 3DxProENGINEER plug-in loaded.
