It's not possible today to use the SpaceNavigator cap to control Rotate View. This is a good suggestion though so we will look at possibly adding this functionality in a future version of the driver

Please try installing the latest version of the driver which is v1.5.8. It's available from http://www.3dconnexion.com/support/downloads.php

Setting a keyboard shortcut is all that's really needed. Try changing the shortcut to Opt+Cmd+Shift+H and see if that works.

Please ensure you have the latest 1.5.7 driver installed. That comes with an updated framework.

The preferences files reside in your home directory's ~/Library/Preferences folder. They won't be in the system's /Library/Preferences.

Please try the process again and see if it works.

It's possible that SpaceNavigator might be sending data even though you are not touching the cap. Try clicking on Calibrate in the 3Dconnexion preference pane to reset the "resting" position of the device.
