Re: Enhancement Request: function keys on the controller cap

Ya, that's one issue with a 6dof pressure sensing device: pressure buttons will make the device move in the direction you press the button. The buttons on top of a 2Dmouse are pushed in a direction that the device does not move (although the pressure changes friction with the mousepad.) That's why a...

Re: Bluetooth HID

Android 4.4 Kitkat introduces OS support for Bluetooth HID http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html "Android 4.4 support for two new Bluetooth profiles to let apps support a broader range of low-power and media interactions. Bluetooth HID over GATT (HOGP) gives apps a low-latency link...

Bluetooth HID

As I read about the 4dof (dual analog sticks) Moga controller for Android and iOS I noticed Bluetooth HID being mentioned. Upon a search I came across these pages about Bluetooth HID and here is a revealing quote: "Bluetooth HID is a lightweight wrapper of the Human Interface Device protocol defined...

Re: Wireless SpaceNavigator :)

While I do appreciate the idea of replacing batteries as they don't perform as well after years of use, I don't see why it would be a deal breaker in this case. I mean 160hours (4 x 40hours/week) seems many times more than ample, even years later perhaps it might go down to 100hours, still more than...

Re: Wireless SpaceNavigator :)

I was wrong about apps sharing data: http://developer.android.com/training/building-content-sharing.html Perhaps a background service could act as a driver, collecting data from USB or Bluetooth and distributing it to various apps. http://developer.android.com/training/run-background-service/index.h...

Re: Wireless SpaceNavigator :)

Hi UtaSH! I have an Android phone, I believe all Android devices have micro-usb receptacles. Ya, I forgot about the demo that was written for Android last year http://www.3dconnexion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5339 From the point of view of the host this is simply a USB device, the fact that it ...

Re: Wireless SpaceNavigator :)

This is great news! Now I can sit and relax wherever I want using the 3DMouse and not worry about tripping over cords! The 1 month battery life is incredible! While all desktops/laptops have full sized USB ports, the MS Surface is the only tablet I know of that also has a full sized USB port: http:/...

All apps supporting all devices

Although this is actually a request to operating system developers, I thought I'd share it here as it would affect input device manufacturers such as 3D Connexion. A quote from: http://blog.3dconnexion.com/blog/bid/266648/3D-Mice-for-Gaming-Imagine-the-Possibilities "That said, without native “plug ...

Head-mounted displays and 3dmice

Head-mounted displays will soon be moving from science fiction to reality. This could be a good case for putting a 3dmouse into a vehicle. Perhaps it could replace the IDrive center console knob in the newer BMWs with 3dmice instead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDrive IDrive knobs currently only pr...

Portable 2hand with smartphone

Currently there is only one form factor: set next to the keyboard held into place with a heavy base. How about something similar to the iCade mobile, except with a 3dmouse instead of a thumbpad? It shouldn't be heavy, as the only reason the Space Navigator is heavy is because of the heavy metal base...

Thanks for the feedback jwick! I admit I'm a bit speculative as to how many more input levels can be gained from accessing a greater force/torque range. But I think it's something worth researching! It might end up being analogous to rod/cone density lessening as the distance from the fovea increase...

High-precision stiff-spring 3Dmice

I had this idea about a year ago, emailed it half a year ago, and it seems to have subsequently found its way into the circular file. After having used 3dmice on and off for 15years or so, I feel that these are some important hardware enhancements. 3Dmice are currently great for 3D movement. With th...

I tried that, but it doesn't work so well. Which mouse button you press and from where to where (pointer position) affects how it rotates. The pointer position being a factor makes it less useful since you have to keep resetting the pointer position. Adding joystick support would be trivial, but the...

Thats a cool concept, multiple users controlling the same app/model, I agree that this should be integrated with a 3Dmouse. Imagine a group of engineers at a conference table each with a tablet used by one hand, and a wireless 3Dmouse in the other. With a push of a button they could manipulate a 3Dm...
