Press Release

IPA and IPA WebView Provide Support For All 3Dconnexion Motion Controllers
September 13, 2004 Partner Release

Immersive Design, Inc. ( http://www.immdesign.com ) today announced that IPA v8.0 and interactive publications generated using IPA WebView have support for all 3Dconnexion motion controllers. Using a 3Dconnexion SpaceBall®, SpaceMouse®, Space TravelerT, or CadMan® provides a natural extension of the functionality found in IPA for generating assembly, service or training procedures and interacting with a live 3D product manual using IPA WebView. 3Dconnexion's controllers are used in a two-handed fashion in conjunction with a standard mouse to help users to position and manipulate objects in 3D space much more efficiently than possible with just a mouse alone.

"We are excited by the opportunities that IPA offers our customers," said Jan Larsson , Director of Partner Marketing at 3Dconnexion Inc. "Historically, the main usage of our controllers has been during the design phase of a product. Immersive Design's IPA and interactive product manuals extend the value of our 3D controllers outside of the engineering department to the manufacturing, service, and sales departments. We look forward to our customer's' customers using their 3D in a powerful, new way."

For many non-engineering individuals using mainstream applications, one of the major drawbacks to the use of 3D is the non-intuitive use of a 2D input device such as a mouse or keyboard for manipulating a 3D data. Fully supported in IPA and the generated interactive documentation running inside of PowerPoint, MS Word or Internet Explorer, the 3Dconnexion motion controllers help overcome the input dilemma for mainstream individuals. The value of 3D controllers has long been locked up in the design engineering departments, IPA generated procedures leverage the power of the 3Dconnexion devices in applications for assembly, service, marketing and sales.

"In response to our customers' requests, we have added the full functionality of the 3Dconnexion motion controllers in the 3D documentation published with IPA so that users outside of the engineering departments may interact with 3D product information in an intuitive and easy way," said Gregory Smith, CEO of Immersive Design. "In some applications, the SpaceBall, SpaceMouse or SpaceTraveler will become the primary input device for many users.".
