3Dconnexion Launches Next Generation of SpaceBall - the SpaceBall 5000

High Performance USB Version Offers Integrated Microsoft Office Support

LOS GATOS, California - February 26, 2003 - 3Dconnexion, the leading developer of motion controllers, announced today the release of SpaceBall® 5000, the next generation of their award winning line of SpaceBall motion controllers. The SpaceBall 5000 features a new state-of-the-art patented optical sensor, offering unsurpassed performance and control to the 3D CAD designer. The new sensor technology provides drift-free and calibration-free operation with its non-wearing measuring system.

The SpaceBall 5000 USB offers a new, modern silver-and-black design, with a soft coat palm rest, while the serial version maintains the classic black design. The USB version offers a 6 times higher data rate, providing more precision and control than ever before. It also supports the recently introduced Microsoft® Office Plug-In, which premiered on 3Dconnexion's SpaceNavigator® and offers professional users increased productivity.

"The SpaceBall 5000 demonstrates our commitment to continually offer our customers improved products," said Wolfgang Hausen, CEO of 3Dconnexion. "We expect new customers, as well as our 100,000+ current SpaceBall users, to be very excited about these innovations."

The SpaceBall 5000 joins the SpaceMouse ® Plus as 3Dconnexion's flagship high-end motion controllers, the only ones to support over 100 design and analysis applications including the full range of high-end CAD applications, including CATIA®, Pro/ENGINEER® and Unigraphics®.

Like all 3Dconnexion motion controllers, the SpaceBall 5000 leverages the productivity and comfort benefits of working with two hands - one hand on the mouse to create, select, modify or annotate, and the other hand on the motion controller to navigate.

3Dconnexion's two-handed work style has shown to increase productivity by up to 30% and lower the amount of repetitive mouse movement by nearly 50%. The result is that individuals can plan, design and validate products more comfortably and quicker, enabling companies to get their products to market sooner.

The SpaceBall 5000 USB and serial are available now worldwide through resellers and in North America through 3Dconnexion's online e-Store, at an estimated street price of US $499. Current U.S. SpaceBall customers are eligible for a $100 trade-in rebate through March 31, 2003.
