SpaceNavigator win7 64bit, device recognized but apps wont

Postby keremetes » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:21 am

Hi,
Hope you can help me. I bought a new space navigator and i installed the latest win7 64bit drivers and software like the cd setup asked me to do and space navigator was working perfect (with google earth, maya 2011 and 3ds max BUT when I formatted my computer and re-installed win7 64bit the device isnt working now. The blue lights are on and the 3dconnexions training software works with the device but no 3d application seems to be working (such as 3dsmax maya google earth, etc) The computer seems to recognize the device but the apps arent for some reason.

my system specs are ;

intel quad CORE Q9559
asus ROG mobo
ati radeon hd4800x2
6gb ddr3 memorry.
OS: Win 7 64bit
hope you can help me , thank you.

ps: sorry for posting it as a new topic but my problem is a little different because the 3dconnexion demo does work so that means my spaceNav device is recognized but any 3D app i want to use they wont work with it , nothing happens when i use the spacenav (softwares i tried : maya 2011, 3dsmax, Google earth)

Did you install the driver before installing the applications?

close all running applications
Go to Programs and features in the control panel
Select 3Dconnexion
Choose change
Repair.
Restart driver:

1) Open Google Earth

Click Tools, Options, Navigation
Non Mouse Controller
Check box Enable Controller
Click apply
Push OK

Check and see if the application now recognizes the SpaceNavigator.

Maya:

The 3Dconnexion plug-in in Maya depends on the command MagellanStartup being executed by the usersetup.mel. When another script is installed it can overwrite the 3Dconnexion usersetup.mel.

To confirm that this is the problem you are seeing, type "MagellanStartup" [ without the quotes ] at the Maya command line.This should enable [devicename] navigation.

If your 3Dconnexion device starts when you type "MagellanStartup" at the command prompt but is not auto-starting, that would indicate that another instance of usersetup.mel is being used. To have the device auto-start you will need to add the magellanstartup; line to the end of the active usersetup.mel

You can locate any other copies of usersetup.mel you have using Windows Explorer. If you have other scripts or add-ins such as Maya's Bonus Tools or GoZ , they add their own usersetup.mel files.To find which version of usersetup.mel Maya is using , at the Maya command line type

whatis usersetup.mel

Open the usersetup.mel and add the line MagellanStartup; at the end. If you have several versions with commands you want to use you can consolidate them. If you do not have any versions of usersetup.mel, you can create one - a plain text file with a single line

MagellanStartup;

Maya only checks for the scripts on startup, so you can restart Maya or type "rehash;"

If you are still seeing a problem please let us know whether MagellanStartup enables navigation and which other
scripts or add-ins are in use.

Max:

The 3Dconnexion devices depend on 3Dconnexion plug-in for 3DsMax for navigation inside the application. If your [devicename] is working outside of 3DsMax , either the plug-in for 3DsMax is not installed or it does not have the proper permissions.

In the event that your version of 3DsMax was installed as administrator, you would need to add "Run as Administrator" permission to the 3Dx driver 3dxsrv.exe.

The default location of 3dxsrv.exe is C:-->Program Files-->3Dconnexion-->3Dconnexion 3DxSoftware-->3DxWare64--> 3dxsrv.exe

With 3DsMax closed, stop the driver, add the permission then re-start the driver. [Start, All Programs, 3Dconnexion, Driver, Start Driver| Stop Driver]
Right-click 3dxsrv.exe - Select Properties , then Compatibility and check only 'Run as administrator'.

The Modify /Repair function should add the 3DsMax plug-in as long as 3DsMax is closed during the process and you have the current driver installed. With the plug-in installed there is a 3DMouse news windows that opens initially when you open 3Dsmax. You should see the 3DsMax Pop-Up Menu when you press the Menu button on the SpaceMousePRO and SpacePilotPRO, the Panel button on the SpaceExplorer or the left SpaceNavigator button.

Thank you Fred the way you told me works. I was just scared that I did something to the hardware because it was working before I formatted my computer. Good to know the problem and its solution. :) problem solved.
