3d mouse-tablet interference

Postby tmcthree » Mon Apr 11, 2011 4:26 pm

Hi I've made a profile for mudbox which I'll link below. I have a question or possibly a sugestion.

It works pretty well but as you might imagine I use a graphics tablet with Mudbox. The problem is that the tablet and the 3d mouse compete with each other for control of the 2d mouse pointer. This causes very error prone motion.

Is it possible/ would it be possible to include a checkbox which causes the 3d mouse to override the input from the 2d mouse. In other words, while there is input from the 3d mouse the actual 2dmouse/tablet input is interupted?

A related issue is that when the mouse pointer reaches the edge of the application window all hell breaks loose.

Actlually I think it's the other way, the driver should ignore mouse position, or at least don't move the cursor when 3dx device actions are performed.

Look at the beta 10 changelog, apparently they got something in store for us.
I'm a bit disappointed at that point by the new driver, but they seem to have understood the issue too.

I use tablets too. I use a spacenavigator for notebooks, but also have a normal spacenavigator.

My tabletpc I'm using my spacenavigator for notebooks with seems like it's moving very oddly, which I didn't have a problem with with the old driver, I wonder if it's this problem, that the drivers are conflicting.

It seems like after I get done moving a model in 3dsmax the movement will skid, before it stops. Again this didn't happen with the old driver...so not sure what's going on.

Oh the new driver with the normal spacenavigator is working perfectly with my desktop so far as I can tell.

Also to clarify the strangeness a bit more, besides the skidding, combined movements don't seem to work very well. It seems like it will only move the model in one direction, then hardshift to another direction if I press in another direction. The old driver was much smoother.

I verified there's something wrong or different about the driver by downgrading to the old driver, and everything is working fine in 3dsmax again.

So, I thought that was going to get fixed by some 2mouse emulation enhancement in beta 10... it seems I was wrong, I don't see anything related to that, and the experimental zbrush profile could have been done in beta 9, the issue still remains: wacom mouse/tablet still override the gizmo movements and i'm not even sure this doesn't happen with a regular mouse moving while using 3dx device...

Useless for now, again ;|

ON a more enthusiastic note, the "move to start" part is nice, a ncie workaround for native emulation. If that interference problem gets flushed out it will be perfect. Right now I have to move my stylus about 4cm away from the tablet everytime I want the device gizmo...
