My questions might fit to all 3DC products but I'm most interested in SpacePilot and SpaceExplorer case.
My distro: Kubuntu 10.04 (will be switched to 10.10 shortly).
1. Can the device be used for cursor control?
I'm thinking of using SpacePilot as regular cursor controller for my computer, because I like ThinkPad's Trackpoints very much, but I get tired after many hours of working and I think that bigger device may increase level of comfort. So can I use 3DC products in the same way as trackpoints?
2. Can i set up the device to do scrolling actions when I rotate it in it's axis?
Right figure on this picture
Rotating clockwise would scroll down and vice versa. Is this possible?

Dud
Is it possible to use SpacePilot for mouse cursor control?

Not a 'Windows Mouse'
Dear Mad_Dud,
There is no cursor control. There are no clickers. The device was made to be used along side of a regular 'Windows Mouse'. Applications that have decided to make use of the input from our devices will make use of this input in their user interface as they have developed their software for. The Windows GUI, Graphica User Interface is not one of these.
The same would hold true for scrolling actions.
Sincerely,
Bryan

The more things change, the more they remain the same. ; ^ )
