Picture Viewer Feedback

Post by Rhino »

Hey all.

I use the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer a lot, its replaced the Windows Picture and Fax viewer on my PC for just quickly looking at pictures just because of its support for the Space Pilot but I think it could really do with some improvements in some areas.

First of all it would be really nice if it loaded pictures in the same order that Windows Explorer dose. Windows Explorer when you tell it to order its files by name, it not only orders them alphabetically and numerically but it also takes into account other symbols into its order such as "_", "-" etc in the file names. So dose your picture viewer but the problem being that the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer orders files differently from Windows Explorer which when your browsing though lots of pictures in a folder though the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer, all with random names you are just getting the pictures in a different order than the order in the explorer folder.

For example, I have 12 pictures in a folder, and in the order that Windows Explorer has them they are:
1. 00f87223-41a7-434c-a079-9b1ab277a20d.jpg
2. 1_164345_1.jpg
3. 1c0344aq51ae4.jpeg
4. 2d96dfbf07e723d7.jpg
5. 5c93aeff0106ml53.jpg
6. 6A.jpg
7. 1001021007bd9fda90ae8837d7jpgthumb.jpg
8. 100102100708dfe29556706a71jpgthumb.jpg
9. 100102100792ae3892a5237bc5jpgthumb.jpg
10. C5.jpg
11. xin_182120511142110996994.jpg
12. Z-9WA_PL-90.jpg

But the order I get them in the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer is:
1. 00f87223-41a7-434c-a079-9b1ab277a20d.jpg
8. 100102100708dfe29556706a71jpgthumb.jpg
9. 100102100792ae3892a5237bc5jpgthumb.jpg
7. 1001021007bd9fda90ae8837d7jpgthumb.jpg
3. 1c0344aq51ae4.jpeg
2. 1_164345_1.jpg
4. 2d96dfbf07e723d7.jpg
5. 5c93aeff0106ml53.jpg
6. 6A.jpg
10. C5.jpg

12. Z-9WA_PL-90.jpg

As you can see really different which isn't a huge issue I know but when your dealing with folders with 100s of images in them and browsing though one by one with the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer and then trying to find that photo just off the order you have seen it in can waste a lot of time where before I could just pick it out quite easily. If you could change the order it loads photos in to match that of the Windows Explorer I would be really grateful :D

The next other issue I have with the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer is that unlike the Windows Picture Viewer, it struggles to load really large pictures. For example it takes a whole 2 seconds to load a 3648x2736, 3mb .jpg image where the Windows Picture Viewer can load the same image in a split second. It becomes really annoying when looking at many large images with the 3Dconnexion Picture Viewer since it takes ages to just get though them all thou you really need to use is since you want to be able to zoom into each image quickly using the space pilot etc. Again, if you could fix this it would be really good and would save me heaps of time.

That's really the main bits for now, Cheers! :D

The 3Dviewer is no longer being updated.
This was removed from the current driver.
The add-in is still available for download and use as is.
It will be located under the archive listing.

I like the program too, and it would be nice to have it on Vista or W7, and for 64-bit as well. But it seems that it is discontinued and will only remain available for XP x86.

Even I am having a Win 7 in my PC and it is working great with the images, I have even transferred all the images from the old PC to this PC and it is working nicely.
