What is the difference between SpaceNavigator SE and PE?

Note: as of Oct 1 2009, the SpaceNavigator Personal Edition (3DX-700029) has been phased-out and is no longer marketed by 3Dconnexion.

Price, licensing and support; The SpaceNavigator SE (standard edition) version has an SRP of $99, a license that supports commercial use of the device and full support (phone, email and web). The SpaceNavigator PE (personal edition) version is $59, has a license for non-commercial and academic use only and comes with on-line (forum-based) support only.

Both editions can be used with the same applications.

The text that is added to the PE Software license agreement is as follows:

This license agreement pertains exclusively to the SpaceNavigator™ Personal Edition navigation device. By downloading, installing or using 3Dconnexion software or any portion thereof ("3DxSoftware") you agree to the following terms and conditions. The 3Dconnexion Software, and any portion thereof, are referred to herein as the "Software."
The software is to be used for non-commercial or academic purposes only. The software may be used for commercial or professional use for a period of 30-days. After the 30-day period has terminated, the user must upgrade to the professional version of SpaceNavigator in order to be used for commercial purposes.

In addition, the hardware warranty for all products includes this text:

Limited Warranty. 3Dconnexion warrants that your hardware product accompanying this documentation shall be free from significant defects in material and workmanship for the period of time as follows:

SpaceNavigator
Two (2) years from date of purchase

SpaceExplorer
Three (3) years from date of purchase

SpaceTraveler
Two (2) years from date of purchase

SpacePilot
Three (3) years from date of purchase
