3dxware driver for Citrix

Postby jshaw » Tue May 22, 2007 7:05 am

Citrix support states that a spaceball will work if the driver is installed on both the client and the server, however there is also a "3DxWare for Citrix.msi" that needs to be run on both the server and the client. I have not been able to find this *.msi file anywhere.
Citrix support article: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX10 ... D=44090834

Has anyone encountered this issue and found a resolution? Does anyone know where to find this *.msi file?

Hi jshaw,

Our Citrix plugin is in the process of being tested. Would you be willing to test a beta driver? If so, give us details on your configuration, apps you will be using, devices you have, etc. The Citrix solution only works with USB 3Dx devices.

I would be willing to test the Beta driver, yes. The only application that we will be using over our Citrix connection is Unigraphics NX3. Is it meant to work for that specific version of UG? Will this need to be installed on both the server and the clien systems?

You mentioned that this works only for USB devices. Does this include both the Spaceball 5000 USB and the Space Navigator as well?

Hi jshaw,

It works for the 5000USB and the SN -- any currently supported USB device. I have to be a bit careful there. There were some more or less one-off USB devices, like a USB Cadman, that are no longer supported.

If you want to this test, there is an ftp site you can get version 3.0.2 from:

ftp://ftp-us.3dconnexion.com/citrix
login: citrix
password: 3dxcitrix

You need the MSI and a DLL that is in there. The DLL is only needed until 3DxWare 6.4 is released. A readme in that directory that tells you what to do with the DLL.

When you run the msi, install the client feature on the client and the server feature on the server. Auto start the driver on neither. Once you bring up Citrix's Program Neighborhood and open a connection to your server from your client, THEN start the 3DxWare driver in that window...then run UG in that window.

Let us know how it goes.

Will this beta driver conflict with the current driver already installed on the client systems? There is already a driver on the clients for using a spacball with Native UG NX3.

You can't run both at the same time. You'll have to stop the local driver before starting the Citrix driver.

I have tried to install the driver on a test machine, and it gives the following error:

"The 3DxWare version that is installed on this machine is not compatible with this Presentation Server Virtual Channel Driver. Please install 3DxWare version 4.3 or greater"

I have not been able to find driver version 4.3, and I am testing with a Space Navigator. Is that available on 3DxWare's web site? The latest driver that I see available for download is v3.36

Hi jshaw,

The 3DxSoftware suite is the monster download that you probably installed. It's version is currently 3.3.something. 3DxWare is just the driver part that is included down in 3DxSoftware. It's version should be something like 6.3.x.

Open the 3DxWare GUI (via the systray) and tell me what the About box says for versions.

You are correct, the Driver Version is 6.3.3

When I attempt to fun the "3DxCitrix_v3-0-2_win32.msi", it comes back with the following message:

"The wizard was interrupted before 3Dconnexion 3DxWare Add-on For Citrix could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

This happens each time I try to run the Citrix plug-in for the driver. I have uninstalled and re-installed the space navigator driver several time, and each time it fails.

Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I have at times had problems running the install on the server (no problem on the client). I've had to run it in a command window (rather than just double clicking on it). I've also had to specify the ICACLIENTDIR on the command line.

Such as:

C:\> msiexec /I "3DxCitrix_v3-0-0_win32.msi" ICACLIENTDIR="C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICA Client"

You need 3DxWare 6.x installed beforehand. This can be downloaded inside 3DxSoftware 3.x from www.3dconnexion.com.

Remember that you have to install the 3DxWare on both the client and the server, but don't start it automatically in either. You probably have to edit the Startup folder to remove the automatic startup entry.

Then you have to install the 3DxCitrix add-on on both the server and the client. Be careful to only install the server feature on the server and the client feature on the client.

Finally to run, open a Citrix window into the server from the client. Start the driver inside that window only. Start a 3Dx demo from the start menu in that window to test it. Then you can try running your app.

Can I please test the Beta driver as well. I believe Jim was trying to help me with this same issue in Feb.

We are using Citrix PS v4.5 (Server 2003 64-bit) and want to use a 3Dconnexion usb device (SpaceMouse/Magellan) with Catia and Unigraphics.

Thank you.

Anyone can test it who wants to. In fact, the more the merrier.
Just go to the ftp site above and grab it.

64-bit? The virtual channel driver is 32-bit. I'm not sure if that will interop with a 64-bit Citrix server. ?? Are you running 64-bit CATIA/NX executables or 32-bit? AMD64/x64 or Itanium?

Keep in mind that it only works with USB devices.

We are running a 64-bit Citrix server as well, with 32-bit UG NX3.

Do you expect that this will not work?

ctyker is testing this now.
We'll post the result here when we have something definitive.

ctyker,

Have you had any luck testing the driver on your 64-bit server? Please let me know if you have had any luck (or hit any snags) in your testing.

Thanks
