3DxWare 10 Beta 12 for Windows is here!

Postby ngomes » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:39 pm

Hi,

We have posted today an update to our 3DxWare 10 Beta for Windows software. Beta 12 is available for download from our 3DxLabs page.

We're adding support for the SpaceMouse Pro (long overdue), sync up with 3DxSoftware plug-ins, driver stabilisation. Further details on the Labs page.

We recommend all to upgrade to Beta 12.

Thanks all for you feedback. Please keep it coming.

Edit (ngomes): wrong capitalisation.
Edit (moderator): Beta 13 is has been made available. More details here.

Could you summarize the procedures to get rid of harmful stuff the older versions could have left?

I had the same problem.

My solution (pretty surprised that it worked): I opened one of those .xml files with notepad

C:\Users\********\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg

In my case it was SolidWorks.xml
the 8th line was:
<ApplicationIcon></ApplicationIcon>

I just put in "SLDWORKS.EXE" between the tags, the new line is:
<ApplicationIcon>SLDWORKS.EXE</ApplicationIcon>

After that all theese annoying messages disappeared.

Sorry about that. This field is expected to have a value. That value may not have been filled in by the previous betas.

If it had the name of the actual icon file for the application that would be perfect.

It is an unused field at the moment, but that will change in the next beta.

For now, you can put 3Dx.ico in it:

<ApplicationIcon>3Dx.Ico</ApplicationIcon>
or in this case,
<ApplicationIcon>Solidworks.ico</ApplicationIcon>

Update to my comment on the Beta 11 thread:
My SpaceNavigator continued having the LEDs light up when the computer went to sleep.
Apparently the software install has 2 sections, one of which did not properly update.
After removing the 3DxWare completely and installing the Beta 12, the LEDs operated as selected in the software. No more turning on when I don't want them on.

General remark: 3DxService "stalls" very often (~43-48% CPU cycles). I am mostly on the Desktop and maybe google Earth since Beta12 was released, so nothing unusual going on on my side...

What do you mean by "stalls"? Can you submit a video if it is a visual effect?

I meant that it is still existing as a porocess in the task manager, but basically crashed (hanging?). No response in driver dependent applications like Google Earth or NX. [So I have to terminate processes manually and restart the whole thing (a 3DxConfig desktop shortcut comes in handy atm)]

Is it running, consuming 48% of the CPU, but not communicating with the applications (GE, NX)? Is there anything that consistently causes this, like returning from sleep mode?

Correct
I am not sure, atm it is in this state most of the time when I want to use it ;)

I am not using sleep mode btw, but I am running the SPPro on the hub of my monitor (so it is powered down if I turn of the monitor). This (USB wakeup) is not a prerequesite for the stalling though.

Turn on the Debug Log in the 3DxConfig GUI and PM it to me when you get the next stall. Thanks.

Hi Jwick,
I think the new beta12 works well bu I have a little problem; I use my space navigator with an old pro-E wildfire 2 and everything works fine except that every time I start Pro-E it appears the window of "3Dconnexion Properties" and I have to confirm OK button; I read that I should manually install the file "protk.dat" and thinked that this would solve the issue, but unfortunately in 3Dconnexion drivers did not exist a folder for Wildfire2... may I use the WF3 instead of my version or it is better to continue this way, without install anything?
As always thanks for your valuable advice.

Hello, wave :D
There was a bug in ProE a while back, in that it was always telling 3DxWare to display its GUI. They fixed that at some point. Do you see the same behavior with the non-beta versions of 3DxWare (the shipping version)?

Software suggestion for setting the buttons.
Some of the included profiles have the option to map the 3D mouse buttons as standard mouse buttons, but application profiles that I create do not have this option.
It would be nice to allow all possible button settings for all profiles.

It often depends on which template you start with when you create a profile. Anything from any profile can be copied around to another profile, using notepad. The GUI has intentionally been made simpler than the full capabilities of the driver/xml files to simplify matters to the activities that most people want w/o making things look too complicated.

In addition, if you want to do something that the driver can't do, you can write a script/executable to extend the driver.
