Not sure if Blender is suitable. The previous release didn't include 3D mouse support but the Blender team are addressing that for the next release... The functionality of being able to position the model while simultaneously sculpting looks really cool in this video!

I'll try blender again...been a while since I looked at it. That vid looked impressive. Thanks a lot.

Ahhh, the video comments had where to go. Graphicall.org has 2.58 builds that work with the spacenavigators apparently.

Cool, let us know how you get on with it. Here's the link to the work in progress version: http://graphicall.org/436

2 mouse cursors

Postby whynot » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:41 pm

This may be a dumb suggestion, but would having two active mice help? I haven't tested this at all, but I thought I would suggest it for anyone that has one of these. I'm hesitant to get one if they are not working inside of ZBrush.

Here are the only links I could find on info for this topic..

http://cpnmouse.sourceforge.net/install.html

http://www.dailycomputersolutions.com/b ... s-desktop/

Is this something that could be implemented into a driver for this product? I'm wondering if this would fix the issues that happens when the Wacom pen gets close to the tablet when in ZBrush.

Thanks,
Tony.

Apparently 3D-Coat has perfect support for 3dConnexion mice, at least according to a recent post I read on their forum. It does everything ZBrush and Mudbox can do, possibly more. It's also far less expensive than either of them, has excellent support, and is updated a lot more often. I've been playing with the demo today and have to admit I'm pretty impressed.

It's a shame 3d mice do not work with ZBrush which, even though you can use a regular mouse, is designed around tablets and by far the best way to use it. I guess that is what happens when a developer goes against navigational norms like Pixologic has proudly done. They don't seem all too responsive to user requests, but it doesn't hurt to try I suppose. Being able to use a 3d mouse in ZBrush would allow users to do a few things they can't do with the current design limitations. Drawing out a continuous curve that can go around corners as you draw it comes to mind, among others.

annoying newbie with annoying questions

Postby meltedmind » Thu Jan 12, 2012 7:26 pm

Hi. I'm brand new to this forum. Have used the Space Navigator for a couple of years and just purchased the SpacePilot Pro.

Being new, I probably have no business complaining or asking annoying questions, but I guess I will anyway. I hope I don't get under anybody's skin here, but curiosity is getting to me.

You see, I use ZBrush and Poser a fair bit.

I'm wondering why no Poser support (okay, I know it is supported, but there's no profile, so everything's got to be set up from scratch I guess).

This seems to be true both of the beta and the last supported driver software.

And I'm wondering about ZBrush support. I know Pixologic isn't cooperating, but one of the reasons I upgraded was hoping the new beta would be sufficient. But apparently not. I installed it, but then it stopped working and when I uninstalled it, it would not completely uninstall. It just froze up forever.

I had to end the process and, ultimately, do a system restore just so I could install the latest supported driver, which I'm using now.

Anyhow, is the ZBrush support likely to see any improvement? And how long before this is working better and is no longer a beta?

Okay. Annoying newbie signing off. Thanks for your patience.

Wow, that must have been very annoying. Your story makes me really glad I do daily partition backups.

I got my 3d mouse yesterday and it's my first time using one. I absolutely love it hardware-wise as it really is making navigation so much easier, plus I'm finding it helps quite a bit with my carpal tunnel problem. All the software developers out there insist on using their own control schemes and won't let you change it, making one of these devices a must have IMHO. 3ds Max and ZBrush are really good examples, and there are lots of others. Driver-wise though? Meh. There is still lots of room for improvement. I really do hope they release a new beta soon so I can give it a try.

I honestly don't know what Pixologic's problem is. You'd think something a lot of artists use to simplify how they sculpt by making it more fluid and natural would be something they'd jump on right away, rather than stick their noses up at it. It's like saying they don't want to support Wacom tablets because they "don't see the need". Like one of the moderators said, 3dconnexion users need to flood ZBrush Central with requests for support in order to get the ball rolling. It also might help to remind them that doing so falls directly under their professed goals regarding ZBrush's development, and I honestly don't think any artist would argue that having to memorize a bunch of different navigation schemes is completely stupid. The more programs you use, the worse it gets. Stow the egos and pride so you can get your act together guys!

PS: My favorite has been left mouse to gimbal along with a hotkey to roll, right mouse button to zoom, and left+right mouse button together to pan. Pressing the scroll wheel on the mouse for panning also works, but can be painful when you have to do it a lot. 3D Coat is a pretty good example to follow when it comes to allowing customization of all navigational tasks.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will wait a while before trying anything again with the beta and ZBrush. Looks like the devlepment may have died though based on this thread ... hope not.

Anyhow, where can I find out more about the Logitech component on the SpacePilot Pro? I found logitechusers.com but there doesn't seem to be much of any use there. Mostly game related or other stuff that one can do just as easily (or easier) without using the LCD.

Well, that's my first impression anyway. Are there any really useful LCD applets around? Or am I going to have to try to develop them myself? LOL. Seems like if this is a selling point for the SpacePilot, 3dconnexion would include a few more applets out of the box ... the stuff included is not of much use unless one uses MS Outlook.

Mudbox has been released by Autodesk with 3D mouse support. It works very well.
Maybe ZBrush will take notice.

Hey there everybody!

I'm new here and also as a spaceexplorer mouse user ;)
I installed the beta version 3dxware 10 but still can't rotate the model in zbrush (as for the rest it work perfectly).
Maybe You already answered this question but couldn't notice anything that would help me :(

Is there any way zbrush could notice my 3d mouse and start reacting to it ? :)

What about the support for Open Source

Postby Jainendra » Mon May 21, 2012 11:47 am

I wonder if someone has tested the 3dxware 10 on open source software like Mesh Lab and Art of Illusion. I am asking this because I am not very comfortable with configuration of hardware , it would have been nice had things worked smoothly with automatic installation. At least for window systems I was expecting much easier experience. :o [/url]
